The Silent Route

La Ruta del Silencio

This time it's time to tell you about a route I did on December 24th, although I was also here in August. So a few photos will be from the route in summer but 90% will be from this December. It's winter but the weather was unusual for this time of the year, it was almost 20 degrees, so I took the opportunity to go out on my bike and do the penultimate route of the year.

My route to follow was this one starting from Zaragoza (Spain) and it is about 400km, this map is of the complete route but the Silent Route goes from Cantavieja to Ejulve, all villages of the Maestrazgo region.

Here a friend of one of them was waiting for us to have a coffee. In front of the bar was the municipal sports centre and I was struck by a sculpture made up of old machinery, I didn't know what it was but it adorned the square.

The next stop was at the dam of the Santolea reservoir, it was half dry but the views were still impressive, the water flows through a canyon and the colours of the surroundings enchanted me.

A little further on was a viewpoint to see the other side of the reservoir, we took some photos and now began a fun part full of curves, here lovers of two wheels would enjoy if they go through this area, good asphalt with little traffic and a very very fun road, this section is from Castellote through Olocau del Rey and Mirambel, and then finish in Cantavieja.

Here in Cantavieja we stopped to refuel our machines and also to eat something, we needed to recover our energy, we were already half way through the route and we went into this curious bar where they offered The Silent Route lunch consisting of truffled fried eggs, home fries, pork ribs, Teruel ham, chorizo, sausage and black pudding. They also brought out some olives to nibble on while we were waiting for lunch.

We set off and head towards the start of the famous Silent Route, the sign announcing this stretch of road is full of stickers that the thousands of bikers who visit this place leave their little footprint on.

A few kilometres after starting we stop at a monument in the shape of a bus, which pays homage to the bus line that used to run along these roads, this bus is called El Caimán, this model only has two walls and we can get on the back to get on and take some photos, there is a parking area so you can stop without any problems if you go by car, my friends have given me permission to be in the group photo that we took together.

The scenery is breathtaking and makes you want to stop at every turn to take a picture.

We continue along this magnificent road until we reach the rock formation known as El Órgano de Montoro, its characteristic shape is easy to recognise so you can't miss it if you visit this road, you can stop and enjoy a picnic as there are tables for this purpose.

And we reach the end of this magnificent stretch of just over 50km but very very fun and surrounded by beautiful scenery. Just after arriving at the end of this route there is a monument of a goat, also full of stickers of bikers who leave their mark. We also have a beautiful viewpoint where a board with a photograph of the landscape marks each point of what we can see from there.

We only had to return home, we spent a fantastic day together, good food, good road and good times. As soon as we arrived in Zaragoza (Spain) I proceeded to wash the bike, and all that was left was to get home and rest a bit, although that same day in the evening we had Christmas Eve dinner to celebrate Christmas, what better way to end the year.

And that's all for today, I hope you will follow my adventures, thank you very much for everything until next time!

a very pleasant trip, unfortunately I don't understand a little about the food you mentioned 😁and I have never seen olives.😭😭😁😁

olives are used to make the famous extra virgin olive oil, the tree that produces it is the olive tree. It is typical of the Mediterranean Sea area in Europe. The food is also typical from here so you won't know it, thank you very much for commenting!

terimakasih sudah menjelaskannya salam saya dari Indonesia..
