A tourist in Seoul.
There is always (or almost always) a first time for something.
Today is the day dedicated to the subway. The opportunity presents itself to meet a friend and videomaker from Malta, who has great quality and experience.
For the first time today, I need to withdraw money from an ATM, buy a T-Money card, which will then be charged via NFC by machines in all subway stations, and then take the subway.

Un turista a Seoul.
C'è sempre (o quasi sempre) una prima volta per qualcosa.
Oggi è il giorno dedicato alla metropolitana. L'occasione si presenta per incontrare un amico e videomaker Maltese, di grande qualità e esperienza.
Per la prima volta oggi serve prelevare soldi dal bancomat (ATM), comprare una T-Money card, che verrà successivamente caricata via NFC dai macchinari presenti in tutte le stazioni della metropolitana, e successivamente prendere la metropolitana.

Seoul Metropolitan Subway consists of 22 lines and is one of the largest networks in the world. Line 1 was inaugurated in 1974 after 3 years of work.
Unbelievable.
Many people remain frightened by this large metropolitan network, saying it is easy to get lost.
I have not had any such sensation although there is certainly a lot of information, hundreds of meters of tunnels and connections between one station and another, with exits and stores of all kinds, so much so that you can spend entire days looking around.
I think it's more due to the Korean characters, an "alien" alphabet if you don't study it in writing and sounds. Basics.

La metropolitana di Seoul consta di 22 linee di collegamento ed è una tra le reti più grandi del mondo. La linea 1 è stata inaugurata nel 1974 dopo 3 anni di lavori.
Incredibile.
Molti descrivono questo sistema di metropolitana come dispersivo, dove ci si perde facilmente.
A conti fatti non ho avuto alcuna sensazione del genere sebbene esistano certamente molte informazioni, centinaia di metri di tunnel e raccordi tra una stazione e l'altra, con uscite e negozi di ogni genere, tanto da passarci intere giornate a curiosare.
Credo che sia dovuto più che altro ai caratteri Koreani, un alfabeto alieno se non lo si studia nella scrittura e nei suoni. Basi.

The subway stations appear clean and well screened, I didn't see any ground paper or dirt as you might call it.
Because of Covid-19, there is probably even more attention to washing and control areas, but from what I see in the streets and parks, I can easily imagine that even without the pandemic things would be in this same condition.

Le stazioni della metro appaiono pulite e ben controllate, non ho visto alcuna cartaccia a terra o sporcizia che dir si voglia.
A causa del Covid-19, probabilmente esiste ancor più attenzione nel lavaggio e nel controllo, ma da quello che vedo in strada e nei parchi, posso facilmente immaginare che anche senza la pandemia le cose sarebbero in questo stessa condizione.

8 million people, on average, use the subway every day and yet everything is working and clean (those who live in Rome surely have a different experience).
The public toilets are clean. In fact, it is normal to notice passenger/tourist information assistants and cleaners in the areas.
Everyone wears a mask, and in the train compartments the seats dedicated to the elderly and pregnant women are left available regardless.
I notice a great sense of civic duty, even if presumably there are exceptions.
In the very long underground tunnels there are stores of various kinds and utilities (clothes, shoes, coffee, bread, pharmacies...) and many information and advertising panels.
Monitors rather than billboards, animations and ads full of animated graphics that show the time remaining until the next train arrives and where it is along the route.
Metro trains do not have drivers. They are on time, and because of the large flow of people and the many exits and connections to other lines, the compartments have signs for each access door to allow for better flow.
Each access shows the previous and the next stop, so that everything is always clear even for the most clueless tourist.
When the train is about to reach its stop, a cheerful music from the loudspeakers warns even the most distracted passengers.

8 milioni di persone, in media, usano la metro ogni giorno eppure tutto è funzionante e pulito (chi abita a Roma ad esempio ha sicuramente una esperienza differente).
I bagni pubblici sono costantemente puliti. E' infatti normale notare assistenti per le informazioni ai passeggeri e turisti e addetti alla pulizia degli ambienti.
Tutti indossano la mascherina, e nelle carrozze dei treni i posti dedicati agli anziani e le donne incinte vengono lasciati a disposizione a prescindere.
Noto un grande senso civico, anche se presumibilmente esisteranno eccezioni.
Nei lunghissimi tunnel sotterranei si trovano negozi di vario genere e utilità (vestiti, scarpe, caffè, pane, farmacie...) e molti pannelli informativi e pubblicitari. Monitor più che cartelloni, animazioni e pubblicità ricche di grafica animata che mostrano il tempo rimanente all'arrivo del prossimo treno e dove si trova lungo il percorso.
I treni della metropolitana non hanno conducente. Sono in orario e, a causa del grande flusso di persone e delle molte uscite e connessioni con altre linee, le carrozze hanno indicazioni per ogni porta di accesso, per consentire un deflusso migliore.
Ogni accesso mostra la fermata precedente e quella successiva, in modo che sia sempre tutto chiaro anche per il turista più sprovveduto.
Quando il treno sta per giungere alla propria fermata, dagli altoparlanti una musichetta vivace mette in guardia anche i passeggeri più distratti.

The journey with line 2 includes a long external track, crossing the great Han River on one of the many bridges that characterize the scenery in this metropolis.

Il tragitto con la linea 2 prevede un lungo tratto all'esterno, attraversando il grande fiume Han su uno dei tanti ponti che caratterizzano lo scenario in questa metropoli.

I arrive at my destination and meet my friend.
The scenery in a quite central area of Seoul makes me raise an eyebrow between surprise and doubt.
Where am I? Have I actually arrived or am I still at the starting point?
This curious feeling is given by the fact that apparently, the general scenery is the same everywhere. The roads and structures are so similar that they induce doubt.
In the two photos you can make out the typical contrasts visible from an inner street in the block of smaller, older homes and stores, while in the background there are wide 5-lane roads and blocks of gleaming, ultra-modern buildings and structures.
I may never have moved.

Arrivo a destinazione e incontro il mio amico.
Lo scenario in una zona abbastanza centrale di Seoul mi fa alzare un sopracciglio tra la sorpresa e il dubbio.
Dove mi trovo? Sono effettivamente arrivato o sono ancora al punto di partenza?
QUesta curiosa sensazione è data dal fatto che apparentemente, lo scenario generale è uguale un po' dappertutto. Le strade e le strutture sono talmente simili da indurre il dubbio.
Nelle due foto si possono distinguere i tipici contrasti visibili da una stradina interna nel blocco di abitazioni e negozi piu' piccoli e vecchi, mentre sullo sfondo spaziano strade larghe a 5 corsie e isolati di palazzi e strutture scintillanti e ultramoderne.
Potrei non essermi mai mosso.

The housing blocks in the innermost area are connected by narrow, one-way streets and the spaces are limited. Characteristic and fascinating electricity cable-wrapped pylons are always present, but just turn the corner and you already realize you are walking among more modern buildings.

I blocchi abitativi nell'area più interna sono collegati da strade strette, a senso di marcia unico e gli spazi sono ridotti. Caratteristici e affascinanti piloni avvolti da cavi elettrici sempre presenti ma basta svoltare l'angolo e già ci si rende conto di camminare tra palazzi più moderni.

After lunch in one of the local restaurants, we arrived at the "잔" café. It is a characteristic place ideal for a chat with friends, with a wide choice of menus and a small terrace with a wide view.

Dopo un pranzo in uno dei locali della zona, arriviamo al "잔" cafè. Si tratta di un caratteristico locale ideale per 4 chiacchiere in compagnia, con ampia scelta di menu e un piccolo terrazzo con ampia visuale.

The dessert looks like a tree trunk.
The chocolate is delicious and inside the chocolate paste is mixed with black cherry, with a melt-in-the-mouth texture as a worthy ending to a great lunch.

Il cioccolato è delizioso e all'interno la pasta di cioccolato si mischia all'amarena, con una scioglievolezza in bocca come degno finale di un ottimo pranzo.
