Hello friends,
I've been here for a long time, and I'm returning today. Well, this weekend I was north of Las Tunas, in the municipality of Puerto Padre; La Villa Azul, La Villa de los Molinos.
There's a very popular song that says... Puerto Padre has things that Havana doesn't... And it's very true.

I'll start by telling you that in this northern coastal town, there's a freshwater well in the sea. This is a curiosity for everyone who visits this village for the first time, and the hosts are filled with pride when they take you there.
But it was discovered by an animal. There was a fisherman who had a pet goat, and every time he went fishing on the seawall, he took his pet with him. He was always amazed because the animal began to drink water from the sea, until one day curiosity led him to the place where his goat drank water every day.
The surprise was such that the news filled the town with joy, and they dug the well, installed a windmill, and it looked beautiful.
I remember when I was a child and they took me to the beach. You had to board the boat from the dock at the end of the central promenade (that's another interesting sight in this town). Right next to the dock is this well.
Then we'd take the Hilda Roque boat to the beach, a few kilometers across the sea to then arrive and enjoy some salt water and sunbathing.

I was talking about the central promenade or avenue that welcomes you to this wonderful city, but coincidentally, there's another perpendicular promenade, Máximo Gómez Street, which leads to the beach.
This peculiar curiosity gives it a genuine and unique touch. Many cities have only one promenade, but Puerto Padre has two.
However, this blue city of windmills isn't all. Cuban history says that Christopher Columbus arrived on the island via Bariay, but studies dating back some years suggest that Columbus discovered Cuba via Puerto Padre, and the Latin name the Spanish gave it was Portus Patris.
Fernando García Grave de Peralta, a Spaniard living in Puerto Padre, studied the history of the aboriginal people and developed this hypothesis. He was also the one who created the first Cuban submarine. He was a great scientist, and rightly so, the town's museum bears his name.
In The Blue Village welcomes you. The hill fort, right at the top of the hill and the beginning of the walk, is where you look down and everything is blue on a sunny day. This Sunday it was a bit cloudy and the sea looked gray.
However, the windmill at the end of the walk was clearly visible in the distance, but we know that the sculpture of Don Quixote is there, right in front of it.
Also in La Villa de los Molinos is a Statue of Liberty. And I adore this one because she's holding something that arouses curiosity in people like me.
I don't want to talk too much about this topic.
My husband, @argelfernadez, was born in Puerto Padre and wrote the Décimas azules a Puerto Padre from his heart. It's a rather long poem, so I'm not sharing it. But I'm going to ask him to share it with a literature community so they can learn about the lyrical way he feels about this city.
I shared mine with you. If you ever come to Cuba, be sure to visit Puerto Padre. You might never want to leave.

Hace mucho tiempo que estuve por acá y hoy regreso. Pues este fin de semana estuve al norte de Las Tunas, en el municipio Puerto Padre; La Villa Azul, La villa de los Molinos.
Hay una canción muy popular que dice …Puerto Padre tiene cosas que no las tiene La Habana… Y es muy cierto.

Si empiezo contándoles que en este municipio del litoral norte existe un pozo de agua dulce dentro del mar. Esa es una curiosidad de todos los que visitan esta villa por primera vez y que los anfitriones se llenan de orgullo cuando te llevan hasta allí.
Pero fue descubierto por un animal. Había un pescador que tenía como mascota a un chivo y cada vez que él iba a pescar al malecón, llevaba a su mascota. Siempre se asombraba porque el animal comenzaba a tomar agua del mar, hasta que un día la curiosidad lo llevó hasta el sitio donde cada día, su chivo tomaba agua.
La sorpresa fue tal, que la noticia inundó de alegría al pueblo y le hicieron el pozo, pusieron un molino y se veía precioso.
Recuerdo cuando era niña y me llevaban a la playa, el barco había que abordarlo desde el muelle que está al final del paseo central(ahí está la otra curiosidad de esta localidad). Justo al lado del muelle está este pozo.
Luego íbamos en el barco Hilda Roque para la playa, unos cuantos kilómetros por mar para entonces llegar y disfrutar de un buen baño de sal y sol.
Les hablaba del paseo central o la avenida que da la bienvenida a esta ciudad maravillosa, pero la casualidad es que hay otro paseo perpendicular y es la calle Máximo Gómez, por donde es el destino a la playa.
Esa peculiar curiosidad le da un toque genuino y de ser única. Muchas ciudades tienen un solo paseo, Puerto Padre tiene dos.
Sin embargo, no es todo sobre esta azul ciudad de molinos. En la historia de Cuba de dice que Cristóbal Colón llegó a la isla por Bariay, pero hay estudios desde hace algunos años, que Colón descubrió a Cuba por Puerto Padre y el nombre que los españoles le dieron en latín fue Portus Patris.
Fernando García Grave de Peralta, un español radicado en Puerto Padre, estudió la historia de los aborígenes y creó esta hipótesis. Además, fue el que creó el primer submarino cubano. Fue un gran científico, con razón, el museo de la villa lleva su nombre.
En la Villa Azul te da la bienvenida El fuerte de la loma, justo en la cima de la loma y el inicio del paseo, que es donde miras abajo y todo es azul cuando el día está soleado. Este domingo estaba un poco nublado y el mar se veía gris.
Sin embargo, el molino del final del paseo se veía muy bien, a lo lejos, pero sabemos que está allí y delante de él, la escultura del Quijote.
También en La Villa de los Molinos está una Estatua de La Libertad. Y esta la adoro, porque lleva en la mano algo que causa curiosidad a personas como yo.
No quiero hablar mucho sobre este tema.
Mi esposo @argelfernadez, puertopadrense por adopción y de corazón escribió las Décimas azules a Puerto Padre. Es un poema bastante largo por eso no lo comparto. Pero le voy a pedir que lo comparta en una comunidad de literatura para que conozcan la lirica con la que él siente esta ciudad.
Yo, les compartí la mía. Si algún día vinieran a Cuba, no deje de visitar Puerto Padre. Es posible que no se quiera ir jamás.

Me encantó acompañarte desde tu post en esta visita. Sigue las tunas siendo una provincia de esculturas. Además me he quedado sorprendido con el fuerte de la loma solo conocía las contraindicaciones militares de la Habana, Santiago y Cienfuegos. Está ni la conocía en los libros. STOPUn pueblo lleno de historia, a veces sorprende descubrir que tan rica y variada es Cuba, por contraste a las ideas simples y unilaterales que con frecuencia se promueven. Curioso el detalle del pozo, nunca había visto nada así.
