Sometime last week I wrote about how I, in my great kindheartedness, made a young lady exercise alongside myself over some kilometers - just down there - by the power vested in a bunch of keys. I know she did not reimburse me for my great help but I know the universe has something cool in stock for me concerning that! By the way, I have got some great news for you.
As you may have noticed in some of my previous posts, I sometimes mention that the university lecturers’ strike that had been going on in my country for about 8 months has been called off finally. Yay! I should pop virtual champagne, just hold out your glass cups.
But in the real sense, I can’t say I am happy with this update. Well, it is not like I am sad either, I am just exactly within being happy and sad. Do you want to know why? I honestly do not know. But I remember when some people ask me to pray for school to resume I just keep mute and nodded. I would be like who wants them to resume? Certainly, not me! Also, who wants them to continue the strike? Not me, certainly!
In a way, the happier side of me got a better hold of me. Seeing that school is resuming soon, I heaved a sigh of relief that my years months of laborious work at home is about to end. Over the strike period, I have developed freshly cut abs, triceps, and all that from doing house chores consistently. One of the reason is that my younger sister is in her finals in secondary school so we cut her work so she could have less disturbance, while my elder brothers ain’t that much around. Uhm, or maybe I finally got something I am consistent in? Maybe.
Seeing that school is resuming soon…
I decided to start to assume by student-comrade image right here in my African parents’ house. I intentionally defied an unwritten rule that says “Student-comradeship stays in school and school alone. It moves nowhere near home”. You know, change becomes with me, right? I had calculated all the scenarios in my head with no room for errors. So, as time went on, I started to limit my work myself, not with my parents knowing. I just do like half of what I was expected to do and in my mind, I say somebody else can come to do the others. Anybody. Truth be told, some little tectonic plates moved roughly in just some days. But I got the spirit you know, clearly disobeying orders. My strong head may be hereditary you know.
No sooner had the call-off been formally announced than one strange thing happened. You know the strike was of the Academic lecturers. Now, my school’s chapter of the Non-academic staff Union (NASU) decided to give us – me precisely, a pick 7. Oh no, I meant they had an official statement saying they were embarking on a 7-day warning strike. On what grounds? I don’t even want to know! Why on earth would you wait till now of all times? Like, they had a whole eight months to do and undo.
NASU shattered my laid-down rock solid plans.
Now, the resumption looks dark as if the light at the end of the tunnel has been disconnected. This pick 7 implies that I would be staying at home for some more days. By now, the war zone started by my humble self is starting to overwhelm me. Now, I had to forcefully surrender. I had to now turn on the good mama’s boy in me to survive the few days I had left. Or else… You should know how it is when a world power surrenders. More chores I did, to find favour in the eyes I had flexed my comrade muscles, including the ones I was given and the ones that never concerned me. I did all of them. Man must survive at all costs. I have surely learned my lesson the hard way, that is, until you are out of the house you don’t do and undo anyhow. Somehow the universe conspired with my family against me or it was all a product of projection gone wrong…
NASU are found of doing pick 7 most of the time ASUU called of strike !lol
But don't worry comrade surrender in peace just for few more days and mama favour shall always be with you.
The thing was that it was only in my school o, assuming it was general like that of ASUU them we can say we all are comrade-in-arms 😅.
Well, I already surrendered in peace... and by the way, it seems that issue has been resolved but no official memo yet.
