Today in the world of comic books, a tremendous new milestone has been set. A brand hew world record was hit today by my Holy Grail of books…Amazing Fantasy #15. This book for the non nerds here, features the first appearance of Spider-Man. The book was a whopping 12 cents when it was released back in 1962…here we are 59 years later and a CGC 9.6 graded copy sold for a total of $3.6 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!
It’s the highest graded copy of this book currently out there which blows my mind! I had an opportunity to snag a raw beat up copy about 6 years back for $5 thousand bucks and had to pass for a few reasons. Now that raw in that shape would command around $15-$20k. Yeah…I fucked up. (Sigh) I still need this son of a bitch and while stories like this are good overall for the hobby…it is just going to put my copy that much more out of reach. Damn you rich people!!!!
This copy sold today on Heritage Auctions and beats out the previous comic record also set earlier this year. That book, Action Comics #1 which features the first appearance of Superman, sold for a measly $3.25 million. Chump change…

Congrats Spidey…one day, a low grade copy with coffee mug circle stains and mustaches drawn on a Peter Parker throughout…will be mine…and I’ll love it just as much if not more than this book’s new owner. 🤞

12c -> millions in 60 years is not a bad return. You need serious money to collect things like that. I'm sure I've thrown out comics that could be worth a nice amount, but you just can't keep everything and comics were considered disposable when I was a kid.
!PIZZA
Yeah…books like this are in an entirely different stratosphere from where I’ll ever be, but I will have a copy one day down the line. Most likely a very low grade one but it’ll still be the real deal.
@blewitt! I sent you a slice of $PIZZA on behalf of @steevc.

It's crazy to see real comics ephemera hit the collectibles market in contrast to the gazillions of SPECIAL COLLECTOR'S EDITION ISSUE 1/2 VARIANT COVER 15 shenanigans that flooded shops in the 90s.
Funny part is today I sell lots of those foil, prism, die-cut, holofoil, glow in the dark, chromium gimmicky covers from the 90’s. Not fir a ton but they used to live dollar bins for decades. Today they are $10-$20 dollar books in some cases. Madness!!!
I think an awful lot of that is due to morons like me who are looking at them now as some kind of historical artifact we can learn from and preserve as opposed to any kind of real nostalgia. I can't help it, I'm a sucker for these dumb things. :)
You aren’t alone dude. I like “shiny” as well. Lol
Deathmate will never die! Never!!
What about Continuity Comics and their indestructible Tyvek covers?!?
I...have never heard of these! I must get one so I can be buried with it. Centuries later when archaeologists dig up my remains, they will see the indestructible Tyvek cover of the comic and believe it was important to some sacred ritual.
Yay! 🤗
