Nerd By Northwest #276 – “They Call It TV ‘Programming’ For a Reason…”

Not much needs to be said about this one. All I gotta say is that I'm very glad to be far removed from the fear porn that makes up most of the American TV and cable news coverage of Covid-19. I see a bit of it over the internet, and I can see the negative effect it has had on some of my family & friends over the past year and a half. It seems to me any potential benefit in being informed (assuming some of that information is even good in the first place) is often outweighed by the stress, anger, and fear induced by the way the information and context is framed. The news media should have an important role in society, and we deserve a lot better than the CNN's and Fox News' of the world.
I don't claim to have all the answers either, but this thing I DO know... if you want peace of mind, you can't go too far wrong by simply turning off the TV. 😉

I watch very little TV news. I have online sources I trust, based on long experience. The good old BBC seems muzzled these days. We each have our own filter bubble even if we think otherwise.
