Anyhoo... as you can see, it's time again to get back to the group's D&D campaign! Most of you probably remember the three former Fire Cult members in the 3rd panel, the ones that Nolan was guilted into hiring as henchmen. But the dragon turtle is a much older reference from last year, all the way back in strips #198, 199, & 200. Long story short, the party sold Aerissi (the defeated Elemental Prophet of Air) into slavery to the dragon turtle, in exchange for him looking the other way as they butchered & fire-bombed their way through the denizens of the Water Temple. So if you were wondering about the dragon turtle, that's why.
Of course, the REAL stumper is how in the heck is the dragon turtle playing cards when all he's got is flippers with no fingers or thumbs...
(BTW, who knows what movie the "top men" line is from? For that matter, how about the one from the first paragraph in this commentary? These should be easy ones; so if no one here gets them I will lose all faith in humanity forever more... 😩)

True. But there's still a chance to be the first to name the movie reference for the paragraph starting with "pop quiz"! It's an American movie, but was popular enough at the time that most of the world has seen it. I'm sure there are frickin' polar bears in Siberia that saw the movie...

I haven't watched it for a while, but I remember a time when some of the 2nd-tier cable channels played that movie over and over and over. Which is why that line was burned into my brain, and also why I have zero interest in watching it again. 😏
