For those less familiar with Dungeons & Dragons, an Artificer is a blend of magician and gadgeteer, combining technology and magic to great effect. Or in this case, gross effect. But yeah, you get the general idea...
Now if you remember, Pickles the goblin (before becoming a full-time adventurer) previously made a living as a fry cook at Waterdeep's premiere fast-food franchise, Khelben's Fried Chicken (the original KFC... conceived centuries before that Colonel Sanders copycat! 😉). And obviously some of her magical spells tend to reflect that. And if you think about it, a medieval or fantasy world has nobody collecting used cooking oil to make bio-diesel like they do in our world, so all that greasy oil has to go somewhere. Which is how you have a goblin wandering around with an extradimensional space the size of a closet chock-filled with fried chicken oil & grease. But like Rule of Adventuring #36 says... "one man's trash is some goblin's disgusting treasure".
I imagine this strip has some asking a couple questions. Like, is that a giant's dinner plate that Nolan is sledding across the grease on? Yes... yes it is (he originally wanted to use Sir Marko's shield, but Marko just wasn't having any of that). You might also be curious as to Pickles' magical implement and think it seems somewhat familiar... all I will say it is absolutely, positively NOTHING like a certain super-gun portrayed in the movie "The Fifth Element". That is mine and my lawyer's story, and we're sticking to it! 😁

Even before I scrolled down I was thinking of The Fifth Element. It's one of my favourite movies and I love the gun sequence.

Yeah I wanted it to resemble it a bit, but at the same time make it look less refined and more hodge-podge (hence the bits of tape on parts of her gun). It IS goblin tech after all... if Zorg's super gun is a top-of-the-line BMW, Pickle's gun is more like a battered, 30-year-old Ford pickup. Functional (mostly), but not pretty. 😏

Pickles has the basic ice cube system, with the Ray of Frost cantrip. Maybe one or two more levels, and Pickles can upgrade it to the advanced ice cube system using the Ice Storm spell. Though at that point, it's possible the ice chunks it shoots out may in fact be frozen chunks of chicken grease instead of ice...😁
