My little girl had an assignment in school that I found very interesting. It was about learning about the heroines of my country. People always talk about the heroes who fought for our independence, but little is said about the women who even gave their lives to support the independence process of our nation.
Mi pequeña tuvo una asignación en el colegio que me pareció muy interesante, se trató de aprender sobre las heroÃnas de mi paÃs, siempre se habla de los próceres que lucharon por nuestra independencia, pero poco se dice de las mujeres que incluso dieron sus vidas para apoyar el proceso independentista de nuestra nación.
My little girl had to research Josefa Joaquina Sánchez, and to make everything more dynamic, her parents (us) had to create a children's story that briefly narrates her life and contributions to the cause of independence. We, as parents, had to actively participate because the story would be in 3D format, that is, a book where the figures have some depth when opened.
A mà pequeña le tocó investigar sobre Josefa Joaquina Sánchez, y para hacer todo más dinámico junto a nosotros sus padres, debÃamos elaborar un cuento infantil que relate brevemente su vida y aportes a la causa de la independencia. Nosotros como padres debÃamos participar activamente porque el cuento serÃa en formato 3D, es decir, un libro que al abrirlo las figuras tengan algo de profundidad.
It was quite a challenge for us, as it was the first time we had done this type of craft. So, after a good while of researching how to do it, we got to work. My wife and daughter began cutting the colored sheets to shape the book, and I was tasked with creating the drawings and presenting a story idea. Together, we read about Josefa, and little by little, we developed a short story. In the end, we really liked how it turned out.
Para nosotros fue todo un reto, era primera vez que hacÃamos este tipo de manualidad, asà que luego de investigar un buen rato como hacerlo, no pusimos manos a la obra. Mi esposa junto a mi hija comenzaron a picar las hojas de color para darle forma de libro y a mi me tocó crear los dibujos y presentar una idea de la historia. Juntos leÃmos sobre Josefa y poco a poco desarrollamos un pequeño cuento, al final nos gusto mucho como quedó.
It goes something like this:
Josefa, the Brave Girl Who Embroidered a Dream
In the port of La Guaira, facing the beautiful waters of the Caribbean Sea, the beautiful Josefa Joaquina was born. Curious and brave, there was no adventure that scared her. She loved to climb trees and admire the landscape, but it saddened her to know she was not free.
When Josefa grew up, she met a man as brave and dreamy as her: José MarÃa España. He also dreamed of a free Venezuela. They got married and together kept their desires for freedom a secret. They did not want their country to have a king, but to be a Republic where everyone was equal.
Their house became a refuge for Josefa and her friends who also desired freedom. Together they planned to fight for it, and Josefa helped write all the documents that spoke of their plans. Josefa knew her work was very dangerous, but her desire for freedom outweighed her fears.
Every great plan needed a symbol: A flag! One with four colors and four stars that would represent the provinces and their people—all those who shared Josefa's dream of a free Venezuela. Thanks to her talents with thread and needle, Josefa embroidered this beautiful symbol of liberty, the first flag that represented a fight and the desire of many.

Josefa la niña valiente que bordó un sueño
En el puerto de La Guaira, frente a las bellas aguas del mar Caribe, nació la bella Josefa Joaquina, curiosa y valiente, no habÃa aventura que la asustara. Le encanta trepar a los árboles y admirar el paisaje de su bellos paisajes, pero le entristeció saber que era libre.
Cuando Josefa creció, conoció a un hombre valiente y soñador como ella: José MarÃa España, el también soñaba con una Venezuela libre. Se casaron y juntos mantenÃan en secreto sus deseos de libertad, no querÃan que su paÃs tuviera un rey, sino que fuera una República donde todos fueran iguales.
Su casa fue un refugio para Josefa y sus amigos que también deseaban la libertad. Juntos planearon luchar por ella y Josefa ayudó a escribir todo los documentos que hablaban de sus planes. Josefa sabÃa que su trabajo era muy peligroso, pero si deseo de libertad superaban sus miedos.
Todo gran plan necesitaba un sÃmbolo ¡Una bandera! Una con cuatro colores y cuatro estrellas que representarán a las provincias y su gente, todos los que tenÃan el mismo sueño de Josefa, una Venezuela libre. Josefa gracias a sus talentos con hilo y aguja bordo este bello sÃmbolo de libertad, la primera bandera que representó una lucha y el deseo de mucho.
The story is a little longer, but that was essentially the first draft of what we wrote. We later divided it and added images to accompany the scenes. The first drawings were done by hand, but the proportions were not as we needed, so we ended up doing them on the PC and printing them out. My daughter colored them, and finally, we managed to glue them onto the different pages.
El cuento es un poquito más largo pero en esencia ese fue el primer borrador de lo que escribimos, luego lo dividimos y agregamos imágenes que acompañaran las escenas. Los primeros dibujos fueron a manos pero las proporciones no quedaron como necesitábamos, asà que terminamos haciéndolos en la PC e imprimiendolos, mi hija los coloreo y finalmente logramos pegarlos a las distintas hojas.
It was a beautiful experience learning about Josefa Joaquina with my daughter. I think her story really excited her because she had to tell it in class, and her teacher told us that she did so with an enthusiasm and admiration that clearly touched her heart.
Fue una experiencia bonita aprender con mi hija de Josefa Joaquina. Creo que le entusiasmó mucho su historia porque tenÃa que contarla en el salón, y su maestra nos cuenta que lo hizo con un entusiasmo y admiración que se nota que le tocó el corazón.

Es muy cierto, en la historia muy poco se habla de las heroÃnas que contribuyeron bastante a la independencia de Venezuela, Josefa fue una de ellas, gran mujer con ejemplo de patriotismo y libertad. El cuento 3D quedó muy bonito, esa es la idea que la familia se una y juntos elaboren estas actividades escolares. Espero que sigan contribuyente y apoyando a su hija en todas las actividades escolares, son muy importantes para ellos el apoyo de nosotros como padres, saludos 🥰🤗
Si fue muy bonito conocer la de Josefa, recuerdo que cuando fui estudiante solo de me enseñó de José MarÃa España, su esposo, pero jamás de ella y los aportes a la causa que promovieron.
Apoyar a nuestra hija siempre es un placer, tratamos de que el proceso sea divertido ya que ella se aburre muy rápido por su condición, pero está vez todo fluyó de maravilla.
