Suddenly, I heard a faint but firm little voice say “Sorry, Aunty Pearl, did you hurt yourself?”
De repente, oí una débil pero firme vocecita que decía: "Lo siento, tía Pearl, ¿te has hecho daño?".
I turned to see the cutest child with the most beautiful smile ever looking so curious to know if I was okay. I need to remind you that she is only 20months old and she is a super-intelligent kid.
Me giré para ver a la niña más linda con la sonrisa más hermosa que jamás haya existido y que miraba con tanta curiosidad para saber si yo estaba bien. Tengo que recordar que sólo tiene 20 meses y es una niña superinteligente.
Back story…
La historia de fondo...
On arrival from work, I was playing my music in the background as I was getting my things out of the car. As soon as my little girl heard my voice, she ran from inside the house to give me a big hug as is our ritual whenever I get back from somewhere.
Al llegar del trabajo, estaba poniendo mi música de fondo mientras sacaba mis cosas del coche. En cuanto mi pequeña oyó mi voz, corrió desde el interior de la casa para darme un gran abrazo, como es nuestro ritual cada vez que vuelvo de algún sitio.
After exchanging hugs, I tuned the volume of the music a bit higher than it was and started dancing with my niece. It was the perfect way to unwind for the evening and dance away the stress from the day’s hustle and bustle.
Tras el intercambio de abrazos, subí el volumen de la música un poco más de lo que estaba y me puse a bailar con mi sobrina. Era la forma perfecta de relajarse por la noche y bailar para eliminar el estrés del ajetreo del día.
We both got immersed in the dance and in the heat of the moment, I kept swinging round not realizing I had not fully shut the car door and with the next swing came my hands slamming hard on the door.
Las dos nos sumergimos en el baile y, en el calor del momento, seguí balanceándome sin darme cuenta de que no había cerrado del todo la puerta del coche y con el siguiente balanceo mis manos golpearon con fuerza la puerta.
For a brief second, I saw stars lol… I kid you not 😂😅😅

I was in a bit of pain and my fingers were clearly turning red from the impact. I sure was not going to let anything spoil my mood, especially after a long and tiring day.
Me dolía un poco y mis dedos estaban claramente enrojecidos por el impacto. No iba a dejar que nada me estropeara el ánimo, sobre todo después de un día largo y agotador.
One thing that struck me was my little girl’s understanding of empathy. This made me realize that children are a reflection of us- their parents, and their loved ones.
Una cosa que me llamó la atención fue la comprensión de la empatía de mi pequeña. Esto me hizo darme cuenta de que los niños son un reflejo de nosotros: sus padres y sus seres queridos.
Each time she hurts herself or someone around her hurts themselves, she watches and listens to the way we show empathy in those situations, and by default, she has started putting these virtues into practice.
Cada vez que se hace daño o que alguien de su entorno se hace daño, ella observa y escucha la forma en que mostramos empatía en esas situaciones, y por defecto, ha empezado a poner en práctica estas virtudes.
Indeed, it is so important to be aware of what we tell and showcase (our actions) to kids because ultimately they reflect these values, actions, speeches, words, behavioral traits back to us in one way or the other.
De hecho, es muy importante ser conscientes de lo que decimos y mostramos (nuestras acciones) a los niños porque, en última instancia, ellos reflejan estos valores, acciones, discursos, palabras y rasgos de comportamiento hacia nosotros de una forma u otra.
Kids are always watching… Let’s always teach them by acting, saying, and doing the right things.
Los niños siempre están observando... Enseñémosles siempre actuando, diciendo y haciendo las cosas correctas.
