To Exist Not to Compare and Compete

Have you ever felt the sudden rush to keep up with them because you feel stuck in a certain moment?

Have you ever think that you're unjustifiably slow while the people around you seem to move progressively in their own axis?

Have you ever felt the pang of irony when you are trying to encourage your life by saying, "life is not a race" because unfortunately, the society built a standard that says different?

The truth is, constant pressure slows you to move freely. Competitions to either ourselves and others; and comparisons between our capabilities and theirs, chain us down and achoring us to drown. It is a truth that is hard to swallow, both comparisons and competitions are pressures that are our responsibilities.

We should be focused—not with the obstacles that will pull us down, but to ways and paths we can go forward with. We tend to frequently mind other's business rather than our own that sometimes we forget to check and see ourselves. By the word business, I meant life of other people. Some if not most, have a habit of being unconditionally proud for other people's achievements, but then without knowing why feels a growing uneasiness of comparison within their minds.

This feeling is actually unavoidable, however one is encouraged to not tolerate this. Same goes with competitions that we all feel in the real world. Because we live to survive, moreover, we survive and work hard to stand out. Albeit this is unavoidable, we should not practice unhealthy comparisons and competitions for it may lead to serious and dangerous emotions like hatred, envy and jealousy.

One might find it hard to stop from comparing oneself to another, and it's okay as long as we try our best to erase that practice. There are still healthy competitions that could be a great help: a competition with your self and all your previous ones. There are as well comparisons that could be converted to inspirations to do better. However, be reminded that having a goal alone to be better is pointless—you need to be better and be you.

Life is a race: it is undeniably true that you need to keep up to it. However, life became a race because of its race of time only. In addition, you wouldn't enjoy life if you are constantly anxious of what ifs and time.

We should take our time, enjoy doing the moment and move through it at our own phase. Because we all grow differently from various environment, places, people, and even fortunes in life. Although, unfortunately life fairness was of being unfair, of being privileged and not—everyone has their own fate to nurture.

From Max Ehrmann (1927), Desiderata, "If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time."

We need to accept that we were born differently thus have different life mission and roles. If she was 13 and is on the Olympics, she worked hard for that position. If he was mid-20 and still is confused on his life, he has his purpose as well, he just need to find it still.

We need acceptance, and we need perseverance to breakthrough challenges that is ahead of us. We will have our time, we will eventually arrive in our destinations. We just need to move forward and don't give up finding out way through there.

It will always be the best feeling to not compete and compare ourselves to anyone and instead hope we all can make it. We all need a to feel the warmth of a contented and determined heart. I hope we all can feel it time to time. I hope we all can be found.
