Hello to everyone in the Movies & TV Shows community! Today, Saturday night, I bring you a review of the movie 'Game of Tears', a film by director Neil Jordan, released in 1992. A film that touches on themes such as sexuality, taboos, loss, war and some moral dilemmas that the characters in the story go through. A classic that I am sure many have seen and if not, I will give you some reasons why it is worth watching. I also do a spoiler alert. So without further procrastination let's get started with it!

El día de hoy, sábado por la noche, les traigo una reseña de la película 'Juego de Lágrimas', un film del director Neil Jordan, estrenada en el año 1992. Una película que toca temas como la sexualidad, los tabúes, la perdida, la guerra y algunos dilemas morales que atraviesan los personajes de la historia. Un clásico que estoy segura muchos han visto y si no es así, les daré algunas razones por las cuales vale la pena ver. También hago una alerta de spoiler. Entonces si más dilatación ¡Comencemos con ello!
The story begins with Jody (starring Forest Whitaker) a British soldier who finds himself on a date with Jude at an amusement park in Ireland. Jude is a young woman belonging to the IRA (Irish Republican Army) who pretends to be an ordinary young woman in order to trap Jody and kidnap him along with her fellow IRA members. As Jude takes him to a secluded area, the group attacks and kidnaps Jody. They then let him know that if he does not confess where they are holding one of his comrades (whom they have imprisoned), they will kill him after three days.
Jody does not seem to want to talk and is even more reluctant to deal with any of them, except for Fergus, an IRA volunteer who is assigned to guard the hostage. Fergus, being of a nobler character than his companions, tries to make Jody's stay a little more pleasant for both of them. Leaving Jody's face uncovered, in an act of humanity on Fergus' part, the first intimacy between them is established, for now they both know their identities and have unwittingly put Jody's life at risk. And from there they will share some unforgettable moments for both of them.
La historia comienza con Jody (protagonizado por Forest Whitaker) un soldado británico que se encuentra en una cita con Jude en un parque de diversiones en Irlanda. Jude es una joven perteneciente al IRA (ejército republicano irlandés) que finge ser una joven común y corriente para poder atrapar a Jody y secuestrarlo junto a sus compañeros del IRA. Al Jude llevarlo a una zona apartada, el grupo ataca y secuestra a Jody. Luego le hacen saber que sino confiesa en dónde tienen a uno de sus compañeros (a quién tienen encarcelado), lo matarán pasados los tres días.
Jody no parece querer hablar y más aún se ve renuente a tratar si quiera con alguno de ellos, excepto por Fergus, un voluntario del IRA al que se le es asignado custodiar al rehén. Fergus al ser de un carácter más noble que sus compañeros, intenta hacer la estadía de Jody un poco más agradable para ambos. Dejando al descubierto el rostro de Jody, en un acto de humanidad por parte de Fergus, se establece la primera intimidad entre ellos, pues ahora ambos conocen sus identidades y han puesto sin querer en riesgo la vida de Jody. Y a partir de allí compartirán algunos momentos inolvidables para ambos.
In one such conversation, Jody tells Fergus the story of the Scorpion and the Frog. In it he relates how one day a scorpion asks a frog to help it cross the river by letting it land on its back. The frog, doubtful, asks him how he can be sure that he won't sting him. The scorpion replies that he wouldn't since they would both end up drowning. Thanks to this answer, the frog agrees to help him. In the middle of the journey, the frog feels a sting on his back. The scorpion has stung him. The frog asks him why he did it and the scorpion answers: "It's my nature". Jody tells Fergus at the end of the story that he will not be able to kill him, that he is a frog but his companions are scorpions.
This fable will haunt Fergus' head for some time because on the second day, at night, the leader of the group tells him that he must execute Jody because he did not speak and the companion they had imprisoned ended up delantandolos. Fergus informs Jody about this decision and in tears, Jody asks him to please go to his girl and let her know how he feels, the young Dil, who frequents a bar known in London. Fergus agrees to do so and in the morning, they both go out to finish work. Jody, in front of Fergus begins to resume the talk where he said he was the best bowler and runner Cricket. He then starts to run, challenging Fergus to catch him.
En una de esas conversaciones, Jody le cuenta a Fergus la historia del Escorpión y la Rana. En ella relata cómo un día un escorpión le pide a una rana que la ayude a pasar el río dejando que ella se pose sobre su espalda. La rana, dudosa, le pregunta qué cómo puede estar seguro de que no lo pícara. El escorpión responde que no haría ya que ambos terminarían ahogados. Gracias a esa respuesta la rana acepta ayudarlo. En medio del viaje, la rana siente un escozor en su espalda. El escorpión le ha picado. La rana le pregunta por qué lo ha hecho y esta le contesta: "Es mi naturaleza". Jody al terminar la historia le dice a Fergus que él no será capaz de matarlo, qué él es una rana pero sus compañeros son unos escorpiones.
Esta fábula rondará en la cabeza de Fergus por algún tiempo ya que al segundo día, por la noche, el cabecilla del grupo le dice que debe ejecutar a Jody ya que este no habló y el compañero que tenían encarcelado terminó hablando. Fergus le informa a Jody sobre esta decisión y entre lágrimas, Jody le pide que por favor vaya a ver a su chica y le haga saber lo que siente, la joven Dil, quién frecuenta un bar conocido en Londres. Fergus acepta hacerlo y hecha la mañana, ambos salen a poner fin al trabajo. Jody, delante de Fergus empieza a retomar la charla donde decía que era el mejor lanzador y corredor de Cricket. Acto seguido comienza a correr, desafiando a Fergus a alcanzarlo.
Fergus looks helpless as he can't see himself being able to shoot Jody, let alone from behind. They both stop. Jody begs him not to, to let him live and Fergus seems to want the same and before he can do anything about it, Jody runs off again but is accidentally rammed by a British tank. Jody is dead and Fergus escapes from there noticing that his comrades have been attacked. Soon he would ask for help to an acquaintance to be able to travel to London and to begin a new life under the false name of "Jimmy". There he would also begin his duty to meet Dil as he promised Jody.
Fergus, now Jimmy, works as a bricklayer and keeps a low profile. However, he does not cease to feel haunted by his past: the IRA group that sets out to find him and Jody, running on a cricket field in his white uniform. Jimmy then heads to the hairdresser's where Dil works (place that Jody confessed at the time of the chase) and meet her. Fergus is enchanted by Dil, a beautiful and sober woman for whom he begins to have feelings from the start. He follows her to the pub she frequents and thanks to the bartender they strike up a conversation. The two seem to like each other but Dil is stalked by a couple who are abusive to her.
Fergus se ve impotente al no poder verse capaz de disparar a Jody, menos por la espalda. Ambos se detienen. Jody le súplica que no lo haga, que lo deje vivir y Fergus parece querer lo mismo y antes de que pudiera hacer algo al respecto, Jody sale corriendo nuevamente pero es embestido accidentalmente por un tanque británico. Jody a muerto y Fergus escapa de allí al notar que han atacado a sus compañeros. Pronto pediría ayuda a un conocido para poder viajar a Londres y comenzar una nueva vida bajo el falso nombre de "Jimmy". Allí comenzaría también su deber de conocer a Dil cómo prometió a Jody.
Fergus, ahora Jimmy, trabaja como albañil y mantiene un perfil bajo. Sin embargo no deja de sentirse perseguido por su pasado: el grupo IRA que se dispone a encontrarlo y Jody, corriendo en un campo de Cricket con su uniforme blanco. Jimmy se dirige entonces a la peluquería dónde trabaja Dil (lugar que Jody confesó en el momento de la persecución) y conocerla. Fergus se ve encantado por Dil, una mujer hermosa y sobria por quién comienza a tener sentimientos desde el inicio. La sigue hasta el pub que ella frecuenta y gracias al bartender sostienen una conversación. Ambos parecen gustarse pero Dil se ve acechada por una pareja que es abusiva con ella.
Fergus decides to put Dil's partner in his place so that Dil will leave her once and for all. In this act of chivalry, Dil is moved and decides to initiate some dates with Fergus. Everything was going relatively well until on one of these dates, Fergus and Dil decide to have sex.As Fergus begins to undress Dil, he realizes that she has a male member. Dil is a man. Fergus looks horrified and flees the scene. However, he realizes that he has great love for Dil and tries to apologize to her. Dil forgives him but he is reluctant to treat her as a woman and think of her as a bride.
Fergus arrives home one night where he is stalked by Jude, his former IRA companion and lover, who has come looking for him to make him commit some group missions. He refuses but Jude threatens to kill him and Dil. Fergus has no choice but to accept. As time goes by, Dil confronts Fergus to make him come clean about their relationship but Fergus has no mind to think about it as he has to accomplish the mission of assassinating a judge. Jude appears in the middle of that encounter to intimidate Fergus but Dil believes that Fergus has some romantic relationship with her.
Fergus decide poner en su lugar a la pareja de Dil para que este la deje de una vez por todas. En este acto de caballerosidad, Dil se ve conmovida y decide iniciar algunas citas con Fergus. Todo marchaba relativamente bien hasta que en una de esas citas, Fergus y Dil deciden tener relaciones sexuales. Cuando Fergus comienza a desnudar a Dil se da cuenta de que está tiene un miembro masculino. Dil es un hombre. Fergus se ve horrorizado y escapa del lugar. Sin embargo, se da cuenta de que siente un gran amor por Dil e intenta disculpase con ella. Dil lo perdona pero este se ve renuente a tratarlo como una mujer y pensar en ella como una novia.
Fergus llega una noche a su casa donde se ve acechado por Jude, su antigua compañera del IRA y amante, quién a venido a buscarlo para hacerle cometer algunas misiones del grupo. Él se niega pero Jude amenaza con matarlo a él y a Dil. Fergus no tiene otra opción más que aceptar. Al tiempo pasar, Dil confronta a Fergus para que esté se sincere sobre su relación pero Fergus no tiene mente para pensar en ello ya que debe cumplir la misión de asesinar a un juez. Jude aparece en medio de ese encuentro para intimidar a Fergus pero Dil cree que este tiene alguna relación romántica con ella.
While that happens, Jude and Maguire are in the place of the mission and seeing that Fergus does not appear, Maguire decides to assassinate the judge on his own. He succeeds but is soon shot by the police and Jude escapes to go after Fergus. Returning to Dil's apartment, she threatens to kill him if he doesn't tell her that he loves her and will never leave her. Fergus does and she unties him but soon Jude bursts in, who comes armed and wants to finish them off. Dil meets her through Fergus' confession and shoots her repeatedly for being an accessory to Jody's death. She almost kills Fergus but says she can't do it and turns the gun on herself. She doesn't do it either. Fergus tells her to escape, that he will take the blame and solve everything. She does.
After a while, we see Dil again as the beautiful, stunning woman we knew. She goes to visit Fergus who has been sentenced to jail. She is very grateful for this gesture and forgives everything that has happened, realizing that Fergus is a simple and good man, but she does not understand why he did it. To which Fergus tells her the fable of the Scorpion and the Frog, the same story that Jody told her...
Mientras eso sucede, Jude y Maguire están en el lugar de la misión y al ver qué no aparece Fergus, Maguire decide asesinar por su cuenta al juez. Lo logra pero pronto es abatido por la policía y Jude escapa para ir tres Fergus. Volviendo al apartamento de Dil, ella amenaza con matarlo si este no le dice que la ama y que nunca la dejara. Fergus lo hace y ella lo desata pero pronto irrumpe Jude quién viene armada y quiere acabar con ellos. Dil la conoce por medio de la confesión de Fergus y le dispara en repetidas ocasiones por haber Sido cómplice de la muerte de Jody. Casi mata a Fergus pero dice que no puede hacerlo y se apunta a sí misma. Tampoco lo hace. Fergus le dice que escape, que el se asumirá y resolverá todo. Ella lo hace.
Pasado un tiempo, vemos a Dil nuevamente como la hermosa mujer e imponente mujer que conocimos. Va de visita a ver a Fergus a quién han condenado a la cárcel. Ella se ve muy agradecida por este gesto y perdona todo lo anteriormente sucedido al darse cuenta de que Fergus es un hombre sencillo y bueno pero, no entiende bien el por qué lo hizo. A lo que Fergus le cuenta la fábula del Escorpión y la Rana, la misma historia que Jody le contó...
This is the end of this movie and the truth is that it is really touching. The story's approach to the nature of being is something to draw from and something we can talk about for quite some time. The fact that each person has a form, a nature of their own and Irreversible makes us feel vulnerable as we realize that there are only two people in the world, as Jody's character puts it. For better or for worse. That Dil can't help but be a woman no matter how much Fergus denies it and that he tried to deny how he feels about her. Jude and the IRA comrades who showed no compassion, even over the years. They make the film an unparalleled gem. Which is why I recommend you give it a chance. You will have no problem with it as it will hook you from the beginning. Este es el final de esta película y la verdad es que es realmente conmovedora. El planteamiento de la historia acerca de la naturaleza del ser es algo de que sacar provecho y del que podemos hablar por bastante tiempo. El hecho de que cada persona posee una forma, una naturaleza propia e Irreversible nos hace sentir vulnerables al notar que en el mundo solo existen dos personas, tal y como plantea el personaje de Jody. Para bien o para mal. El que Dil no pueda evitar ser una mujer por más que Fergus lo niegue y el que él intenté negar lo que siente por ella. Jude y los compañeros del IRA que no mostraban compasión, incluso pasados los años. Convierten a la película en una joya inigualable. Por lo cual, recomiendo que le den una oportunidad. No tendrán problema con ello ya que te enganchará desde el principio.
