Despite being subscribed to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, I use these platforms little because most of the movies I watch are from a more unusual source. The few times I use these platforms is to watch a series, mini-series, or a movie, usually not recent, that casually happens to be available in one or the other of these apps.
A pesar de estar suscrito a Netflix y a Amazon Prime Video, uso poco estas platformas porque la mayoría de las películas que veo son de una procedencia más rebuscada. Las pocas veces que utilizo estas plataformas es para ver alguna serie, mini serie, o alguna película, por lo general no reciente, que da la casualidad de estar disponible en una u otra de estas apps.
As soon as I knew that Netflix would release a movie starring Amy Adams, I immediately added it to my "To Watch" list because I think she's an extraordinary actress and I have loved all the performances I have seen from her. I didn't look for the movie trailer, I didn't look for the synopsis so as not to be predisposed and I got ready to watch it last night. In short, the film tells the story of Dr. Anna Fox (Adams), who suffers from agoraphobia as part of a depressive process and trauma due to a shocking event from her recent past. Anna spends her days locked in her house consuming medicine with some wine and she watches old movies and spying on her neighbors. Until one day, while looking out the window, he sees something tragic happening in front of his house, at the Russell home, a family that has just arrived in the neighborhood.
En cuanto supe que Netflix estrenaría una película protagonizada por Amy Adams, inmediatamente la agregué a mi lista de "Por ver" porque me parece una actriz extraordinaria y todas las actuaciones que le he visto me han encantado. No busqué el trailer de la película, no busqué la sinopsis para no estar predispuesto y me dispuse a verla anoche. En pocas palabras, la cinta cuenta la historia de la Dra. Anna Fox (Adams), quien sufre de agorafobia como parte de un proceso depresivo y de un trauma debido a un hecho impactante de su pasado reciente. Anna pasa los días encerrada en su casa consumiento medicamento con algo de vino y se dedica a ver películas antiguas y a espiar a sus vecinos. Hasta que un día, mientras mira por la ventana, ve algo trágico que sucede enfrente de su casa, en el hogar de los Russell, una familia que acaba de llegar al barrio.
The first direct reference that comes to mind is Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, not only because of the theme but because one of the first scenes we see on Anna's TV screen is precisely a scene with James Stewart. The reasons for their confinement are different (Stewart was a reporter who, after an accident, must stay home with a cast on his leg) but both spy on their neighbors through a camera lens and see things they shouldn't see.
La primera referencia directa que nos viene a la mente es Rear Window de Alfred Hitchcock, no sólo por la temática sino porque una de las primeras escenas que vemos en la pantalla de la TV de Anna es precisamente una escena con James Stewart. Las razones del encierro de ambos son diferentes (Stewart era un reportero que tras un accidente, debe permanecer en casa con un yeso en la pierna) pero ambos espían a sus vecinos a través del lente de una cámara y ven cosas que no deberían ver.
However, there the similarities end. It can be a bit tiresome to compare Hitchcock with the Director of this film Joe Wright (Pride and prejudice, Anna Karenina, Atonement, Darkest hour) but The woman in the window is a film far below quality of Rear window and even of the quality of his own previous works. The script is weak, the film is predictable and towards the last half hour a series of revelations happen that instead of shocking and surprising, are boring and not very credible. I don't want to advance much of the plot because I know that it's still very recent and I know that many of you haven't seen it, but understanding that psychological thrillers respond to a certain structure and certain elements, I believe that in this film, those same elements are a failure after another.
Sin embargo, allí terminan las semejanzas. Puede ser un poco pesado comparar a Hitchcock con el Director de esta cinta Joe Wright (Pride and prejudice, Anna Karenina, Atonement, Darkest hour) pero The woman in the window es una película muy por debajo de la calidad de Rear window e incluso de la calidad de sus propios trabajos anteriores. El guión es flojo, la película es predecible y hacia la última media hora se van sucediendo una serie de revelaciones que en lugar de impactar y sorprender, aburren y resultan poco creíbles. No quiero adelantar mucho de la trama porque sé que aún está muy reciente y sé que muchos de ustedes no la han visto, pero entendiendo que los thrillers psicológicos responden a certa estructura y a ciertos elementos, cre que en esta película, esos mismos elementos son una falla tras otra.
I don't know if the flaws in the story are due to the script or the book it's based on because I haven't read the book, but I can say that not even a good performance from Amy Adams or the great actors who play supporting roles in this tape (Gary Oldman, Julianne Moore, Anthony Mackie, Jennifer Jason Leigh) manage to save it from disaster. It's not the first time Netflix has disappointed me with its offer of titles and it will surely not be the last, so that's why I think I will continue to prefer, as before, other corners of the internet with better productions and movies that are really worth it. In short The woman in the window is another Netflix mistake.
No sé si los defectos en la historia se deban al guión o al libro en el que se basa porque no he leído el libro, pero puedo decir que ni siquiera una buena actuación de Amy Adams ni de los grandes actores que hacen papeles secundarios en esta cinta (Gary Oldman, Julianne Moore, Anthony Mackie, Jennifer Jason Leigh) logran salvarla del desastre. No es la primera vez que Netflix me decepciona con su oferta de títulos y seguramente no será la última, así que por eso creo que seguiré prefiriendo, como hasta ahora, otros rincones de internet con mejores producciones y películas que verdaderamente valen la pena. En pocas palabras The woman in the window es otro desacierto de Netflix.

Hola... La vi hace días y realmente me gustó el giro que nos presentó y debo decir que soy de esos que sabe anticipar los giros de trama y en esta oportunidad no pude.
Claro no es la mejor del año, pero la parte psicológica es interesante y si la vez más allá de una película de ficción, puedes aprovechar todo lo que la rodea y abrir tu mente para desarrollar otras ideas dentro de la misma película lo cual la hace más interesante.
