I had the same problem with The Happening and with A Quiet Place, it lacked more depth in the developed story, because I really consider that it could have been done a very complete work incorporating this important factor, it is what happens many times with movies that try to leave you intrigues in some points, not only they leave intrigue, they also leave holes that can end up disenchanting you from the whole project.
