I think the viewing pleasure is linked completely to the character development. If we become emotionally involved with the characters, then we identify with the show. When the character lacks depth, I tend to forgot the story line and plot. Shows with poor character development are like cotton candy, yummy for a minute, but not very sustaining. Yes, definitely when the story has well-constructed characters, with actors who manage to transform themselves and transmit all the emotions, it is possible to create that bond with the viewer. Because there are other series, where the characters don't have that impact and if they die in the series, we don't care, because they never managed to connect or make us feel anything.
