Hey there cinema fans and, as usual, welcome to yet another review by yours truly. It's always my pleasure to make these posts and have you guys read it :)
In this post I am going to be talking about a series I watched a while back after I read a review on it right here in the community. After reading the review back then, I was convinced that the show was going to be really good especially after recognizing a couple of top names as casts. Of course there are many productions with top stars that end up being a disaster but I was confident that this one would be different because it was on Prime Video - a streaming platform that I have known for high quality shows like The Boys.
Yes, The Boys is a very good show but was this one going to meet up with such a standard of quality? Well that's what we're going to find out today. Without wasting anymore time let's jump right in and talk about the Sci-Fi show, Outer Range.

This story revolves around The Abbott family, a typical family that lives in the countryside on their own ranch in Wyoming. In this family we meet Royal Abbott who is the head of the family, his wife Cecilia, their two sons Rhett and Perry, and Perry's daughter, Amy. Royal, who is the main protagonist in this story, is the kind of man that would do anything for his family no matter what it costs. In a bid to protect his family, he hides from them a big secret about the Ranch that they live on. A secret that would cause a lot of problems later in the story.
Another family we meet in this story is the Tillerson family who are neighbors of the Abbotts and kinda the antagonists in the story. Wayne Tillerson, the head of this family, knows about the secrets on the Abbott ranch and so starts a legal battle to claim part of the land. Things of course don't go very smoothly because Royal tries his best not to lose the land. Everything gets a whole lot worse when a surprise visitor to the ranch called Autumn seems to know more than she is supposed to and causes major problems for the Abbott family.
Will Royal be able to hold on to his precious land? Will the secret of the land come out eventually? How will this entire Ordeal affect the Abbott family and the people around them?

One thing that I absolutely love in a story is a good mystery. I love to guess and speculate what I think would happen later. You cannot watch a show or movie with a lot of mystery in it with me because I will not stop talking. It's annoying to others but I love the weird feeling that mystery gives me. That awesome weird feeling is exactly what I got from Outer Range.
Outer Range is a bundle of mystery up until the end. There are a number of things that happen as the story goes on that would just keep you guessing. They will make you want to just keep watching the series just so you can get answers. Of course this is a very good way to keep the user glued to the screen as opposed to the weak suspense that some series present.
The biggest mystery of them all is the land itself and what is on it. There is a hole on the land that a few people know about. Throughout the first season, Royal tries to prevent his family from discovering this hole. Royal even tries to offer the Tillersons another portion of the land but Wayne insisted on getting the portion with the hole. All the fuzz for a piece of land with a big mysterious hole just begs the questions; what exactly is that hole? Of course, throughout the movie we begin to understand a little bit of what the hole might be but not nearly enough throughout the first season.

Probably the most significant mystery for me in this show is Autumn. This girl who asked to camp on the ranch seems to be a very simple person but she becomes very significant in the story. For just one person, she causes a great deal of pain to the Abbott family and kinda becomes the mastermind villain. I like this character because she is repulsive, annoying and disgusting. She is the character that everyone hates for most parts of the show but then all of a sudden, the feelings towards her change in the end. She is clearly a major antagonist and Royal even despises but then in the end something happens that makes him soft towards the girl and he even saves her. I won't tell you what that "something" is. Go watch the series :)
Another big mystery in this show is Perry's wife, Rebecca. From the beginning we are made to know that she has been missing for a long time. Her disappearance clearly takes a toll on the entire family and causes them to make really bad decisions that would change their lives forever. Even as Royal tries to protect his family from their mistakes he cannot stop the family from falling apart. Eventually every bad decision crashes in the Abbotts' faces and Royal risks losing his entire family.

The concept of family is a core element in this show. Royal's life is filled with a lot of trauma so it is understandable that he wants his family together so he can protect them. This is something I can relate to and from my experience the children would either rebel against their parents or go on to live miserable lives.
In this show we see these things play out. Rhett is a Rodeo star like his dad used to be but he clearly hates his life and, when things really get sour, he decides that enough is enough. Perry, whose wife is missing, makes very poor decisions as the movie progresses and begins to wonder how his life would have been if he had moved out of the ranch. He wonders if his wife would have still been around. It's all a really sad sight to see when the makeshift ideal family that Royal held so dearly began to fall apart. He blames himself going on to make even worse decisions.
Outer Range is a really wonderful show thanks to the very talented cast members. Josh Brolin plays the character of Royal Abbott and I have to say that the guy is a brilliant actor. I have really liked this actor since Deadpool and Avengers but seeing this show made me just like him more. He really embodies the character of Royal Abbott and it's a little weird to see. Still the guy is very convincing especially with the country accent that hardly feels forced.
Another cast member I have to mention is Imogen Poots who plays the role of Autumn. I did not know about this lady until I saw this show. Maybe I had seen her in other productions but I'm not sure. However, in Outer Range she gets a much more prominent role that she totally dominates. When you absolutely despise an antagonist in a show then you know that the actor or actress did a very good job. Autumn is just the worst and for this reason, Imogen Poots is a great actress in my opinion.

Outer Range is a weird Sci-Fi movie but what really makes it worthwhile is the mystery. The mystery of the strange occurrences will have you binge-watching this show just so you can understand everything going on. So on the question of whether you should watch it I would say Yes, you definitely should. I know that there are people who don't like Sci-Fi but I have to say that Outer Range really is not your cliché Sci-Fi series. Just watch it and you'll understand :)

The mystery of it all was just the biggest deal with this show for me. I really wanted to know who Autumn was and what her deal was. I wouldn't say I suspected it but I mentioned it to my movie partner when it got to the scene where there was just that huge clue giveaway. it's crazy how everything started to make sense in the end. I just kept saying "I knew it" even though I wasn't sure😅
I also really hope we get a new season. There is just a lot of questions that the show still hasn't answered to us. We still don't even understand how this all started happening. Let's just wait and hope.

Awesome rating... The mystery made it more thrilling and worth the watch. Autumn really tried in her role as the antagonist. I hope they release the next season soon because, I really want to know the secrets behind that hole.
Autumn was a really good antagonist in my opinion. The entire mystery surrounding her made her a much more interesting character. I really really hope we get a second season soon. They can't just leave us hanging for a long time.
