Everything, Everywhere All at Once. I got a recommendation from a friend who we share similar tastes, to watch this movie. I have decided to share the experience I had while watching this movie and give my honest review on it. I hope you like it...
The movie tells a story about an Asian woman, Evelyn Joy, who runs a laundry business with her husband, Waymond. She has a lesbian daughter who tries hard to make her mother to accept her girlfriend, Becky . Evelyn's father is also a key character in this story. He is called Gong Gong by all.
The movie has three themes:

- Everywhere
- All at Once
Everything
The family is getting everything in the laundry business ready before Gong Gong wakes up. For a moment, Waymond can be seen moving around the building using a series of unnatural movements. Later, the family (without Joy) head to the IRS building. At this point, Waymond's personality changes and he gives Evelyn a list of instructions on what to do.
It is later found out that the new personality of Waymond is from a multidimensional universe called the Alphaverse. He warns Evelyn of an evil called Jobu Tupaki, who threatens the multiverse. He goes ahead to tell Evelyn that she's the only hope of the entire multiverse.
During a fight with a being from the multidimensional universe, Alpha Waymond (Waymond from the Alphaverse) teaches Evelyn how to verse-jump, which requires the individual to fulfill specific conditions inorder to gain abilities of one out of millions of her other possible realities to aid her in the fight. She gets to defeat the multidimensional being and encounters Jobu Tupaki, who is infact Alpha Joy (Joy from the Alphaverse).
Jobu Tupaki was created as a result of series of experiments gone wrong, which enables her to verse-jump at will and manipulate reality as she wishes. She also feels and can be all her other realities at the same time. She explains how she created the "everything bagel" which is a black hole that is believed by the Alphaverse to be able to destroy the multiverse. A series of events unfold, and Evelyn's mind overloads.
Everywhere
Evelyn's mind is being torn through dimensions as she experiences all her other realities at the same time. She gets to experience the same reality that Jubu Tupaki experiences, to be everywhere, all at once, experiencing everything at the same time. She also learns that the everything bagel was created for Jobu Tupaki to destroy herself, and she needed a version of her mother who would be understanding and join her. In this state of chaos, Evelyn realises what Jobu Tupaki realized a long time ago, that "nothing truly matters".
Evelyn and Jobu Tupaki are about to walk into the everything bagel when Waymond in one of the universe tells her to be kind and have hope. A fight occurs and Evelyn defeats Jobu Tupaki's fighters by giving them happiness during the fight and in other universes with the knowledge of the vast multiverse...one after the other, all at the same time. As Jobu Tupaki is about to walk into the bagel, Evelyn reconciles with Waymond and Joy in an alternate universe after confronting Gong Gong. At last, Jobu Tupaki grabs onto Evelyn as she's being sucked in by the everything bagel, while Alpha Gong Gong helps in pulling them out.
All at Once
Everything becomes better as the family's relationship strengthens. As the family walks into the IRS building at the final scene, Evelyn and Waymond share a romantic moment. During the meeting with the IRS official, Deidre, she's drawn to her alternate realities for a moment before finally keeping herself in her universe.
The cast
Michelle Yeoh
Michelle Yeoh is a Malaysian actor. She plays the role of Evelyn who is the main protagonist in this movie and a wife to Waymond and mother to Joy. Her performance is a steady 9/10 for me because she does well to portray the character of a distressed and confused woman, who rises above to do what's best for her family.

Ke Huy Quan
Ke Quan is an American actor and stunt choreographer who plays the role of Waymond, husband to Evelyn and father to Joy in this movie. I love how he transitions from the ordinary Waymond to Alpha Waymond and vice versa. The voice change between the two personalities was also very well done by this actor. His performance is an 8/10 for me.

Stephanie Hsu
She plays the daughter to Evelyn and Waymond, and is the antagonist in this movie. Her character shows similarities between Joy and Jobu Tupaki, and this goes a long way to explain that Joy is not so different in the multiverse. Her performance was quite mid but she does a very good job in playing the character of the broken girl and multidimensional evil across all realities in the universe.

James Hong
He plays the character of Gong Gong and he does a great job at playing Alpha Gong Gong. His transition between characters can be felt as the two characters he plays are entirely different.

What I like about movie
Wonderful concept: The concept of the multidimensional universe in this movie is very intriguing. There is a scene where Alpha Waymond explains the multiverse to Evelyn. He says that every choice made creates a new universe and this is illustrated perfectly in the movie everytime Evelyn attempts to verse-jump. We see a version of Evelyn who is a singer that was blinded early in life due to a childhood accident, a version of Evelyn that rejected Waymond and became a master of Kung Fu and a movie star, even a version where life did not form on earth and she and Alpha Joy (Jobu Tupaki) communicate as rocks. The only other show I've seen that deals a lot with the multiverse is The Flash, but this movie does a better job with the multiverse concept. For a movie that is roughly two hours long, it did an awesome job at portraying the multidimensional universe.
Great story: I like the overall story that the movie tells. There were moments of confusion when I watched this movie, but the story becomes so good that it'll make anyone to be glued to their seats till the end. We get to know that the people from the Alphaverse (including Alpha Waymond and Alpha Gong Gong) have been to so many universes in search of a version of Evelyn that would defeat Alpha Joy and that she (Alpha Joy) would always kill the Evelyn that attempts to defeat her. We are also made to know that the Evelyn in this story is the "chosen one" because she is the only version of herself that is good at nothing, the version living her worst possible reality. Evelyn is capable of anything because she's so bad at everything.
Comedy: This movie classifies under comedy. There are so many scenes that cracked me up. There are butt jokes and other adult themes in this movie that are so funny to watch. There's also a universe where everyone's hands are hotdogs and this was also funny to watch. Another funny theme is the the ratatouille reference in the movie. The fights in this movie are displayed in a serious and comic fashion all at once. There are a lot of funny moments in this movie but I'd like to mention a minor situation during the fight between Evelyn and Alpha Joy's fight through the multiverse that they end up as piñatas on a tree. Most of the fights in this movie gave me "Kung Fu Hustle" vibes and believe me when I say that they were very fun to watch.
What I don't really like about this movie
The plot could have been better: The story in this movie is so good but I think the plot could have been better. Alpha Waymond basically came from nowhere and began to confuse Evelyn's already confusing life. He did a very bad job explaining to Evelyn what was going on and what she was to do about it. I'm sure if I were Evelyn, I would think to myself "Why me?", and occasionally ask "How is any of this my problem?". Alpha Waymond also did a terrible job explaining verse-jumping to Evelyn. In his case, he has a team backing him up and giving him the best "jumping pads" (necessary condition for verse-jump) for the best desired multiverse through an algorithm that was developed in the Alphaverse, while Evelyn has to do this all on her own. Also, the people from the Alphaverse tried stopping Alpha Joy because they believed she wanted to destroy the multiverse. In my opinion, that's the worst case of paranoia I've ever seen because in the end they all died for nothing.
For the most part, it was confusing and boring: For a movie that is roughly two hours long, it took almost an hour for it to make a little sense and get interesting. The first fight in the movie could have been avoided but then Alpha Waymond had to go Jackie Chan on the officers who were doing their job. It was totally unnecessary. The explanation of verse-jump was very confusing and quite useless. Things only got interesting when comic elements were implemented. I even thought it would get interesting after the first fight, but it doesn't until Alpha Joy encounters Evelyn.
My Personal Rating and Final Thoughts
This movie got a lot of positive reviews online and shows that a lot of people enjoyed it. I too enjoyed it but I really believe it could have done better. The ending was when I came to a realization that everything that happened was all for nothing. It turns out that Alpha Joy just needed her mother's affection, and that was what was missing in every universe where the two of them both existed.
One thing I really like and can't stress enough about this movie is the multiverse concept. The movie did a good job in switching between vast universes in the multiverse. Very seamless transitions that are enjoyable. When Evelyn's mind is torn between universes, the depiction was very solid. Sometimes she would exist between multiple realities and the way it is portrayed in this movie is very interesting to see. I really loved when Evelyn began existing in all her realities at once and how the movie did a good job and displaying that too.
My Rating? 8/10.
This movie was really fun to watch although the beginning was so boring. It gets to a point where you want to see more and know how everything plays out. This movie also messed with me in so many ways. I went from being bored, to being confused, to being excited, then laughing, and then being fascinated. I got to feel so many things all at once because of a single movie.
Honestly. This movie is not for everyone as most people would give up after few minutes into the movie, but I promise you it gets better. If you're a fan of the multiverse concept, this is a must watch for you. This movie reminded me of the 2014 blockbuster, Lucy, because of its sci-fi elements, and also Kung Fu Hustle because it integrates action and comedy in a similar fashion.

La película cuenta la historia de una mujer asiática, Evelyn Joy, que dirige un negocio de lavandería con su marido, Waymond. La familia está preparando todo en el negocio de la lavandería antes de que Gong Gong despierte. Su actuación es un 9/10 constante para mí porque hace bien en interpretar el personaje de una mujer angustiada y confundida, que se eleva para hacer lo mejor para su familia.

Ke Quan es un actor y coreógrafo de acrobacias estadounidense que interpreta el papel de Waymond, esposo de Evelyn y padre de Joy en esta película. Me encanta cómo hace la transición del Waymond ordinario a Alpha Waymond y viceversa. El cambio de voz entre las dos personalidades también estuvo muy bien hecho por este actor. Su actuación es un 8/10 para mí.

Lo que me gusta de la película
Maravilloso concepto: El concepto del universo multidimensional en esta película es muy intrigante. Hay una escena en la que Alpha Waymond le explica el multiverso a Evelyn. Él dice que cada elección que se hace crea un nuevo universo y esto se ilustra perfectamente en la película cada vez que Evelyn intenta saltar de verso. Vemos una versión de Evelyn, que es una cantante que quedó ciega temprano en su vida debido a un accidente infantil, una versión de Evelyn que rechazó a Waymond y se convirtió en una maestra de Kung Fu y una estrella de cine, incluso una versión donde la vida no se formó en la tierra y ella y Alpha Joy (Jobu Tupaki) se comunican como rocas. El único otro programa que he visto que trata mucho sobre el multiverso es The Flash, pero esta película hace un mejor trabajo con el concepto de multiverso. Para una película que dura aproximadamente dos horas, hizo un trabajo increíble al retratar el universo multidimensional.
Gran historia: Me gusta la historia general que cuenta la película. Hubo momentos de confusión cuando vi esta película, pero la historia se vuelve tan buena que hará que cualquiera se quede pegado a sus asientos hasta el final. Comedia: esta película se clasifica como comedia. Hay tantas escenas que me hicieron reír. Hay bromas a tope y otros temas para adultos en esta película que son muy divertidos de ver. También hay un universo donde las manos de todos son perritos calientes y esto también fue divertido de ver. Otro tema divertido es la referencia al ratatouille en la película. Las peleas en esta película se muestran de manera seria y cómica a la vez. Hay muchos momentos divertidos en esta película, pero me gustaría mencionar una situación menor durante la pelea entre Evelyn y Alpha Joy en el multiverso en la que terminan como piñatas en un árbol. La mayoría de las peleas en esta película me dieron vibraciones de "Kung Fu Hustle" y créanme cuando digo que fueron muy divertidas de ver.
Lo que realmente no me gusta de esta película
La trama podría haber sido mejor: La historia de esta película es muy buena, pero creo que la trama podría haber sido mejor. Alpha Waymond básicamente vino de la nada y comenzó a confundir la ya confusa vida de Evelyn. Hizo un muy mal trabajo al explicarle a Evelyn lo que estaba pasando y lo que debía hacer al respecto. Estoy segura de que si yo fuera Evelyn, pensaría "¿Por qué yo?", y de vez en cuando preguntaría "¿Cómo es que esto es mi problema?". Alpha Waymond también hizo un trabajo terrible al explicarle a Evelyn los saltos de verso. En su caso, tiene un equipo que lo respalda y le brinda las mejores "jumping pads" (condición necesaria para el salto de verso) para el mejor multiverso deseado a través de un algoritmo que se desarrolló en Alphaverse, mientras que Evelyn tiene que hacer todo esto. Por su cuenta. Además, la gente de Alphaverse intentó detener a Alpha Joy porque creían que quería destruir el multiverso. En mi opinión, ese es el peor caso de paranoia que he visto porque al final todos murieron por nada.
En su mayor parte, fue confuso y aburrido: para una película que dura aproximadamente dos horas, tomó casi una hora para que tuviera un poco de sentido y se volviera interesante. La primera pelea en la película podría haberse evitado, pero luego Alpha Waymond tuvo que volverse Jackie Chan sobre los oficiales que estaban haciendo su trabajo. Era totalmente innecesario. La explicación del salto de verso fue muy confusa y bastante inútil. Las cosas solo se pusieron interesantes cuando se implementaron elementos cómicos. Incluso pensé que sería interesante después de la primera pelea, pero no lo es hasta que Alpha Joy se encuentra con Evelyn.
Mi calificación personal y pensamientos finales
Esta película obtuvo muchas críticas positivas en línea y demuestra que mucha gente la disfrutó. Yo también lo disfruté, pero realmente creo que podría haberlo hecho mejor. El final fue cuando me di cuenta de que todo lo que sucedió fue en vano. Resulta que Alpha Joy solo necesitaba el afecto de su madre, y eso era lo que faltaba en todos los universos donde existían los dos.
Una cosa que realmente me gusta y no puedo enfatizar lo suficiente sobre esta película es el concepto de multiverso. La película hizo un buen trabajo al cambiar entre vastos universos en el multiverso. Transiciones muy fluidas que son agradables. Cuando la mente de Evelyn se debate entre universos, la representación fue muy sólida. A veces ella existía entre múltiples realidades y la forma en que se presenta en esta película es muy interesante de ver. Realmente me encantó cuando Evelyn comenzó a existir en todas sus realidades a la vez y cómo la película hizo un buen trabajo y mostró eso también.

Esta película fue muy divertida de ver, aunque el comienzo fue muy aburrido. Llega un punto en el que quieres ver más y saber cómo se desarrolla todo. Esta película también me afectó de muchas maneras. Pasé de estar aburrido, a estar confundido, a estar emocionado, luego a reír y luego a estar fascinado. Llegué a sentir tantas cosas a la vez debido a una sola película.
Honestamente. Esta película no es para todos, ya que la mayoría de la gente se daría por vencida después de unos minutos de verla, pero te prometo que mejorará. Si eres fanático del concepto de multiverso, debes verlo. Esta película me recordó al éxito de taquilla de 2014, Lucy, por sus elementos de ciencia ficción, y también a Kung Fu Hustle porque integra acción y comedia de manera similar.

Everywhere I turn I see or hear people talking about this movie. I didn’t even know this movie existed until very recently. Also I didn’t even know it was based on the multiverse concept until I read your post. The cover looks weird but I thought it was just going to be a simple drama movie. I really think the topic of the multiverse is really cool. Also I really like James Hong so I guess I’ll finally check out this movie.
