Jeremy Irons, an actor between two centuries
I’m back in the HIVE universe.
And I wanted to start by telling you about an actor that I’ve always had a special fascination for.
His mysterious, intriguing and versatile style captures my attention powerfully since I discovered it in the 1990s.
I am referring to Jeremy Irons, an actor of English origin, whose figure and form is definitely very English. He was born in 1948 and had a lot of participation in television in his country in the early years of his career.

Of course, I discovered it in a movie, and what a "movie". A mixture of so-called "body horror" and a lot of psychological terror. The movie’s called Dead Ringers.

It is based on the book "Twins" and tells the story of the twins who fall in love with the same woman and where at the same time, you see the development of the unhealthy relationship between these identical brothers which lead to the limit.
By the way, to add an even more intense touch to this film, these twins are by profession medical, so this gives quite a strain to the development of the plot.
I’d love to tell you more details, but it would be really nice if you could see it.
In this film, Irons faces the challenge of characterizing double role. These twins with common aspects and with very different ones, obviously presents a laborious study of the psychology of each and the construction and creation of the character.
This film is from 1988, although I discovered it in the late 90’s, the same time I saw his performance in M. Butterfly

The two films are by the same director, David Cronenberg, so it’s very likely that this has influenced my taste, because somehow, they both have a similar aesthetic.
Although this second film is a romantic drama, it also has a very important psychological ingredient.
It recreates the true story of the French diplomat Bernard Boursicot and the relationship he establishes with the Chinese spy Shi Pei Pu.
This diplomat, madly in love, discovers himself involved in a homosexual relationship and in the course of the tape, he faces his deepest feelings and the prejudices of the time.
Jeremy Irons' performance in this film is more than sublime. I highly recommend watching this film as well. The delicacy with which he interprets the torment of the character is truly captivating. Not to mention the use of the ária "un bel di", from the opera Madame Butterfly.
After watching this film, that will also be your favorite opera.
However these two films, although excellent, were not the most popular of this actor.
But, one that did, opened the doors to a different audience and is nothing but his voice interpretation of the character Scar in the Lion King.

As early as the 21st century, Irons participated in The House of Spirits (based on the book by Isabel Ayende) and in Marvel productions.
Playing Alfred in one of Batman’s films brings him very close to young audiences.
Another of the things that gives much validity to this actor, is his incursion in the television series on demand of the new millennium.
However no matter if it’s an old movie or a very recent TV series, the characters composed by Jeremy irons always have the special charm of those who are meticulously created and giving importance to their own psychology.

Y he querido iniciar hablándoles de un actor por el cual siempre he tenido una especial fascinación.
Su estilo misterioso, intrigante y versátil atrapan poderosamente mi atención desde que lo descubrí en los años 90.
Me refiero a Jeremy Irons, un actor de origen inglés, cuyo porte y estampa, es definitivamente, muy inglés. Nació en 1948 y tuvo mucha participación en la tv de su país en los primeros años de su carrera.

Por supuesto, yo lo descubrí en una película, y vaya "que película". Una mezcla del llamado "body horror" y mucho terror psicológico. La película se llama Dead Ringers.

Está basada en el libro "Twins" y cuenta la historia de los gemelos que se enamoran de la misma mujer y dónde a la par, se ve el desarrollo de la relación enfermiza entre estos hermanos idénticos la cual llevan al límite.
Por cierto, que para agregarle un toque aún más intenso a esta película, estos gemelos son de profesión médicos, así que esto le da bastante tensión al desarrollo de la trama.
Me encantaría contarles más detalles, pero estaría muy bueno que pudieran verla.
En esta película, Irons se enfrenta al reto de caracterizar doble papel. Estos gemelos con aspectos comunes y con otros muy diferentes, obviamente presenta un laborioso estudio de la psicología de cada uno y la construcción y creación del personaje.
Esta película es de 1988, aunque yo la descubrí a finales de los 90, misma época en la que vi su actuación en M. ButterfLu.

Las dos películas son del mismo director, David Cronenberg, así que es muy probable que esto haya influido en mi gusto, porque de alguna manera, ambas tienen una estética similar.
Aunque esta segunda película es un drama romántico, también tiene un ingrediente psicológico muy importante.
Recrea la historia real del diplomático francés Bernard Boursicot y la relación que establece con el espía chino Shi Pei Pu.
Este diplomático, perdidamente enamorado, se descubre a si mismo envuelto en una relación homosexual y en el transcurrir de la cinta, se enfrenta a sus sentimientos más profundos y a los prejuicios de la época.
La actuación de Jeremy Irons en esta película es más que sublime. Les recomiendo muchísimo ver también esta película. La delicadeza con la que interpreta el tormento del personaje es realmente cautivador. Y ni hablar de el uso del ária "un bel di", de la ópera Madame Butterfly.
Después de ver esta película, esa también será la opera preferida por ustedes.
Sin embargo estas dos películas, aunque excelentes, no fueron las más populares de este actor.
Pero, una que si lo fue, le abrió las puertas hay público distinto y no es otra cosa que su interpretación en voz de el personaje Scar en el Rey León.

Ya en el siglo XXI, Irons participa en La casa de los espiritus (basada en el libro de Isabel Ayende) y en producciones de Marvel.
Interpretar a Alfred en una de las películas de Batman lo acerca muchísimo al público joven.
Otra de las cosas que le da mucha vigencia a este actor, es su incursión en las series de la tv on demand del nuevo milenio.
Sin embargo no importa si es una película antigua o una serie para tv muy reciente, los personajes compuestos por Jeremy irons siempre tienen el encanto especial de aquellos qué son creados meticulosamente y dándole importancia a su propia psicología.
