I also strongly believe that if we'd have a donations fund for such a purpose it would get filled in hours.

There is a fund of 10K HBD being built through a HDF proposal (which will be replenished when depleted via a new proposal). I don't know, but if I'd have to guess the latest PR articles for Hive are thanks to that proposal.
