Dcrops As Play2Earn Game

If you haven’t heard about Dcrops, perhaps it’s better to start with this introduction post about the game. I’m still waiting for those BETA packs to come. Dcrops has been releasing some teasers about the upcoming changes in the game but I’m looking forward to adding some more cards into my collection once the BETA packs are launched.

If anyone does ask whether they should try Dcrops, I could think of the following points why but this isn’t financial advice and I still leave room for some doubt that I may have missed some points here and there while elaborating.

The Pros

Being an NFT farm game, it’s not that difficult to onboard new players as the rules are relatively the same. The target audience would already know the drill that it takes money to print more money hence they have to pay to play then earn thereafter.

Because it’s built on Hive blockchain, user retention for the game can be improved if people knew they can get paid more tokens just for shilling the game and posting scribbles as an added incentive. This benefits both Hive and the game in general. Holding the game’s token (CROP) can generate passive income from daily Hive airdrops too. This offers another option to the player to sell the CROP for quick kickbacks or keep CROP then hope the Hive they receive raises in value.

The value of CROP may not necessarily be dependent on Hive dividends if it manages to solve this problem, a quote from here:

One dreaded outcome for NFT games is when the game's coin reaches a state of oversupply, showing that there's a lot less interest in buying the coins while there's a massive playerbase that's constantly earning and selling. With enough time and talent, the developers may drive their games away from this bad ending.

Bots don’t necessarily pose a problem with the game’s gameplay mechanics given how passive the game is. Automating the gameplay will only save a player’s time from pressing plant and harvest for a few minutes and these two processes happen days apart. You got a game where bots only save player’s time and nothing else on the rewards side giving everyone else an equal advantage.
The current game’s mechanics don’t really offer a worthwhile benefit in terms of raking in rewards except possibly quest and upcoming updates to the quest system. I haven’t been up to date with how to maximize the quest rewards as I don’t really think stressing over those details to yield a few points of CROP is worth the time but that’s just me.

The Cons

DCrops as an NFT game doesn’t really have much to offer in terms of gameplay. You should check out another in depth review about clicker NFT games by @jazzhero on the subject. It’s still a game you have to buy in to earn and skills hardly have influence in the current mechanics of the game.

2 Devs are running it and the game has been progressing slow and consistent. It’s something.

And Other things:

150,000 to 250,000 BETA packs hinted for the next round at a price of 2$ each (around 300,000$ to 500,000$) like the old price scheme (not counting the benefits of having bonus packs in bulk buys) is just pocket change compared to how much money NFT games can raise outside Hive.

The game currently has two devs working on it and that’s like standing on a shaky pillar. Players who invested big on the game have to pray that @scriptkittie doesn’t get hit by a bus, drop the project because they felt like calling it quits, or do a classic rug pull.

If BETA packs do get launched, I do intend to buy more into the game just because it keeps delivering the features it teased to do (even if at a markedly slow pace) without overhyping the announcements like it really is desperate for your money (shoutout to the annoying Discord NFT spams). It’s been existing for almost a year now (anniversary on April 13th) and players have been receiving a steady stream of income from daily Hive airdrops just for holding CROP tokens.

If Hive pumps, the CROP holders would enjoy the Hive airdrops. If Hive goes down, CROP holders still have the CROP token to sell for speculators of the game to buy into.

One problem the game has that serves as an advantage or disadvantage is the lack of CROP liquidity. The game’s player base leans more on the holders side stacking up more CROP. The game mints more CROP into circulation each season (every 15 days) around 500,000 CROP pool initially and it keeps decreasing by 0.5% each season. This keeps inflation relatively controlled and price on the Hive Engine has been stable for months now.

One hindrance to its growth is the lack of available packs in game since all ALPHA packs have been sold out. It’s understandable that prospective players would back out once they realized how much they missed that boat now that ALPHA packs have doubled or tripled their original value. Once BETA packs are launched, this event would spark new user interest into the game and possibly other games on Hive.

Like all other NFT games out there, it’s all just a gamble so best to just sink money you’re willing to lose. And because Dcrops is still on its unpopular phase, maybe it’s good to start while prices are relatively cheap. By the time any NFT game gets its popular phase, players will likely be buying the bags that came in early anyway.

If you made it this far reading, thank you for your time.

yes i am also waiting for these packs,
for now buying cards in the game :)

I personally think it's far better to just keep on stacking your funds for the BETA packs than buying the current cards from ALPHA second hand as it's too pricey for me.

I've been watching this game for a few weeks. I'm definitely in with Beta packs, but it doesn't seem worth it to me to buy in by having to get a bunch of individual cards on the market right now.

If you're after the slow and steady gain from those cards per value, it's not worth it. I haven't sold my CROP tokens and hoping history would repeat itself where I can convert those CROP to purchase BETA packs + a budget for buying more packs. The alpha cards sold on the market are way expensive than their initial soft pegged price.

I am torn if I should be adding more - with the games that I am into Hive right now budget-wise I am not in the leeway to do it as of this time. Ubos na ang play money ko hahah.

I think the attitude should be asking yourself how can you afford it than limiting it to an I can't afford it mindset.
