Part 2/7:
The film begins with Melanie, a bright child, waking up in a secure cell within a military compound. She is confined, along with other children who share her unusual condition: they are infected with a deadly fungus that transforms ordinary people into ravenous zombies. Each day, the children are taken to class where they engage thoughtfully with their teacher, Miss Justino. This strangely normal routine starkly contrasts with the dire world outside – a world filled with fear and chaos.
As events unfold, Melanie's intellect and curiosity shine through. She impresses Dr. Caldwell, a scientist studying the children, by solving riddles and answering logical problems, though the tone of their interactions is tinged with an unsettling uncertainty about her future and purpose.
