Pete Davidson shared that his first SNL paycheck, just $3,000 per episode, barely covered dinner! I was surprised, honestly, I assumed the pay would be way higher, especially for such a big show.

Google DeepMind claims that its GenCast system outperforms traditional computing methods of weather forecasting out to at least a week and often beyond. GenCast merges some computational approaches used by atmospheric scientists with a diffusion model, resulting in a system that maintains high resolution while cutting the computational costs significantly. It has relatively low computational requirements, so individual academic research teams will likely be able to experiment with it.
Amazon Web Services has introduced a Buy with AWS button designed to make it easier for buyers to make purchases of third-party cloud software using their AWS credentials. The button was created to increase customer and partner loyalty and win rates. Software companies wanting to use the button must sell their products through the AWS Marketplace. It is free for software companies to embed.
Advanced Navigation (Australia) and MBDA (Europe) are creating a GPS backup for planes, using a camera to "read" the ground like a fingerprint. This clever tech cross-checks terrain data with a database to pinpoint location—even if GPS is jammed. Unlike many modern systems, it skips AI entirely. A live test is set for later this year in Australia, with commercial use on the horizon.

A descoberta começou inusitadamente.
Bitcoin had been widely expected to reach $100,000 since the U.S. presidential election but investors sent it to this mark much sooner than expected.
The flagship cryptocurrency was higher by more than 3% at $102,485.78 in early Thursday trading, according to Coin Metrics. Earlier, it rose as high as $103,844.05. Bitcoin is now up more than 140% in 2024 and 48% since the election.
The move came after President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to nominate Paul Atkins as chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, fulfilling perhaps his most important campaign promise to the crypto industry: to replace Gary Gensler, who has become something of a villain in crypto for the agency's regulation-by-enforcement approach to the industry under his leadership.
Trump congratulated bitcoiners in a Truth Social post Thursday morning, saying "you're welcome" for helping send bitcoin to $100,000 and that "together, we will make America great again."
Before Trump is even president, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit is expected to issue a ruling by Friday on a challenge to the new law requiring ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, to divest its U.S. operations by January 19. This case has broad implications, touching on national security concerns, constitutional questions about free speech, and the future of foreign-owned tech platforms in the U.S.
Courts generally defer to the executive and legislative branches on national security matters, but the outcome may depend on whether the court frames the issue solely as a national security question or also considers First Amendment concerns. The balance likely favors the government given Congress's clear constitutional authority to regulate foreign commerce, which supports the legislation requiring ByteDance divestment. Regardless, this case is likely headed to the Supreme Court.
As of now, with Trump to be sworn in on Jan. 20, one day after the federal ban on TikTok is scheduled to begin, Trump's comments have intensified deep concerns about the influence that major donors will have in a second Trump administration and the extent to which private financial interests will be prioritized over national security and public welfare. In fact, it may be the first major decision made by Trump that tells us just how far his administration is willing to go in prioritizing the donor wish list.
Some executives at Nvidia weren't excited about having Starboard as an investor. One senior Nvidia executive said the company's board was very worried that the activist fund would force a reorganization of the company, install its own board, and make Nvidia cut back on its investments in CUDA—the kind of drastic reshaping that it would attempt with Darden the following year. Another Nvidia executive said Starboard wanted a board seat, but the board had pushed back.
Still, the relationship never became too antagonistic. "I don't think it ever got to what I would call a crisis stage. You know DEFCON 1?" one Nvidia executive said, referring to the alert system used by the U.S. military for nuclear war. DEFCON 5 indicates peace, while DEFCON 1 means nuclear war is imminent. "It got to DEFCON 3."
The Starboard team met several times with Jensen and other Nvidia leaders to discuss strategy. Looking back on the investment years later, Smith said that Starboard primarily advocated for an aggressive stock buyback program and a de-emphasis on non-GPU projects such as phone processors. Starboard refrained from applying additional pressure after the meetings. The hedge fund eventually got its wish on the buybacks. In November 2013, Nvidia made two announcements: a commitment to buy back $1 billion of stock by fiscal 2015 and the authorization of an additional $1 billion stock buyback. The stock price rallied about 20 percent in the ensuing few months, and Starboard sold its position in Nvidia by March the following year.
Far from a contentious relationship, Nvidia and Starboard seemed to work well together in this brief period.
"We were incredibly impressed with Jensen," said Smith.
For his part, Jensen recalls the meetings with Starboard but doesn't particularly remember what was discussed. Before he knew it, Starboard was no longer an investor. But that wasn't the end of Starboard's influence on the chip industry, and on Nvidia.
A company called Mellanox was founded in 1999 by several Israeli technology executives, led by Eyal Waldman, who became its CEO. Mellanox provided high-speed networking products for data centers and supercomputers under the "InfiniBand" standard and soon became an industry leader. It had impressive revenue growth, going from $500 million in 2012 to $858 million in 2016. However, its high research and development spend left it with very thin profit margins.
In January 2017, Starboard bought an 11 percent stake in Mellanox. It sent a letter criticizing Waldman and his team for their disappointing performance over the prior five years. Mellanox's share price had fallen even though the semiconductor industry index had risen in value by 470 percent. Its operating margins were half of the average of its peer companies. "Mellanox has been one of the worst performing semiconductor companies for an extended period of time," read Starboard's letter. "The time for fringe changes and marginal improvements has long passed."
After a long series of discussions with the board, Starboard and Mellanox reached a compromise in June 2018. Mellanox would appoint three Starboard-approved members to its board and give the hedge fund additional future rights if Mellanox didn't meet certain undisclosed financial targets. Even with those concessions in hand, Starboard retained the option of waging a proxy fight to replace Waldman. Alternatively, Mellanox could choose to sell itself to a company that could generate better returns on its assets than it could as an independent company. The groundwork was laid for what would be one of the most consequential transactions in the history of the chip industry.
In September 2018, Mellanox received a nonbinding purchase offer from an outside company at $102 per share—a premium of almost a third over its current stock price of $76.90. Mellanox was now fully in play. It solicited an investment bank to seek other bidders and eventually expanded its list of potential buyers to seven in total.
Jensen wasn't thinking about acquiring Mellanox when it became available, according to another Nvidia executive. But he quickly saw the strategic importance of the asset, decided Nvidia had to win the auction, and joined the hunt in October.
Eventually, the list was narrowed down to three serious bidders: Nvidia, Intel, and Xilinx, which made chips primarily for industrial uses. The three potential buyers got into a multi-month bidding war, with Intel and Xilinx topping out around a bid of $122.50 a share. Nvidia went just a little bit higher, at $125 per share. It won the bidding war on March 7, 2019, for an all-cash offer of $6.9 billion.
Days later, Nvidia and Mellanox made the deal public and held a conference call with analysts and investors.
"Let me tell you why this makes sense for Nvidia and why I'm excited about it," Jensen said. He talked about how the demand for high-performance computing would rise—how workloads including AI, scientific computing, and data analytics required enormous performance increases, which could only be attained through accelerated computing with GPUs and better networking. He explained how AI applications would eventually require tens of thousands of servers connected to one another and working together in concert, and the market-leading networking technology from Mellanox would be critical to make that possible.
"Emerging AI and data-analytics workloads demand data-center-scale optimization," he said. Jensen was predicting that computing would move beyond one device—that the entire data center would become the computer.
Jensen's vision came true just a few years later. In May 2024, Nvidia disclosed that the portion of the company that was formerly Mellanox had generated $3.2 billion in quarterly revenue, up more than seven times from the final quarter in early 2020 in which Mellanox reported as a public company. After just four years, the former Mellanox business, which had cost Nvidia a one-time fee of $6.9 billion, was generating more than $12 billion in annualized revenue and growing at triple-digit rates.
"Mellanox was frankly a wonderful thing thrown in our lap by activists," a senior Nvidia executive said. "If you talk to AI start-ups today, InfiniBand, Mellanox's networking technology, is incredibly important to scale the computing power and make everything work."
Brian Venturo, cofounder and CTO of CoreWeave, a leading GPU cloud-computing provider and a customer of Nvidia's, argues that InfiniBand technology still has the best solution to minimize latency, control network congestion, and to make workloads perform efficiently.
Mellanox was a happy accident for Nvidia in some respects. Jensen wasn't on top of it from the start. But once Nvidia identified and understood the opportunity, it made the decision to pursue Mellanox aggressively. It was a great deal, though the outcome depended on Nvidia's ability to execute once the new business became part of the company. In those ways, Mellanox was a typical Nvidia achievement: the company pounced when others didn't, and Mellanox helped power Nvidia's rise to dominance in the AI space.
"It's absolutely going to go down in history as one of the best acquisitions ever," Nvidia's head of global field operations, Jay Puri, said. "Jensen realized that data-center-scale computing requires really good high-performance networking, and Mellanox was the best in the world at that."
After seeing Nvidia achieve all that is has over the past decade, Jeff Smith of Starboard Value had one summarizing thought, too.
"The inflows into leveraged MicroStrategy ETFs accounted for almost a third of the record high $11bn inflow into overall crypto funds in November," strategist Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou said in the note.
"This mega-merger marks one of the most significant moments in the history of UK mobile, heralding the arrival of a new market leader with a combined 29 million customers," Kester Mann, director of consumer and connectivity at CCS Insight, said in a note on Thursday.
"The outcome – after months of intense regulatory scrutiny – is about as good as it could have got for Vodafone and Three. Not only did they secure approval, but the agreed remedies and commitments are less onerous than feared."
The CMA's decision comes after it opened an antitrust probe in to the deal in January and announced an in-depth investigation in April. Last month, the competition watchdog laid out a path for the deal to move forward, if certain remedies were adopted.
The regulator was concerned that the merger, which will trim the number of major telecommunications network players from four to three, would lead to higher prices or reduced services.
Vodafone said the deal is expected to be formally completed in the first half of 2025.
"Today's decision creates a new force in the UK's telecoms market and unlocks the investment needed to build the network infrastructure the country deserves," Vodafone CEO Margherita Della Valle said in a press release.
CMA requires commitments
The legally binding commitments require Vodafone and Three to create their 5G network over the next eight years.
Vodafone has previously said the combined entity would invest £11 billion into U.K. telecommunications infrastructure.
The new company will also need to cap certain mobile tariffs and data plans for three years, as well as offer pre-set prices and contract terms for wholesale services for MVNOs.
These conditions will be overseen by the CMA and the communications regulator Ofcom.
"Having carefully considered the evidence, as well as the extensive feedback we have received, we believe the merger is likely to boost competition in the UK mobile sector and should be allowed to proceed – but only if Vodafone and Three agree to implement our proposed measures," Stuart McIntosh, chair of the independent inquiry group leading the investigation at the CMA said in a press release.
It's a day of celebration for longtime bitcoin investors, who have held on for dear life, or "HODL'd" through several of the cryptocurrency's boom-and-bust cycles, during which government and financial institutions remained dismissive — and even hostile — toward the asset class.
That's largely because of the cryptocurrency's anti-establishment roots. The original idea for bitcoin was proposed at the height of the 2008 financial crisis: a "peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution," its founder, Satoshi Nakamoto, wrote in the Bitcoin Whitepaper.
In recent years, however, the industry has demonstrated the value of bitcoin to much of the institutional investing world. BlackRock, Fidelity, Invesco and others launched the first spot bitcoin ETFs at the beginning of this year — bitcoin's "IPO" moment — and the growing demand for them by institutions has helped drive the price higher. In November, Rick Wurster, the incoming CEO of Charles Schwab, said the firm is preparing to enter spot crypto trading, pending regulatory changes expected in the next Trump administration.
On Wednesday, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said bitcoin is "just like gold, only it's virtual, it's digital," speaking at the DealBook conference. He further clarified that "people are not using it as a form of payment, or as a store of value" and that "it's not a competitor for the dollar, it's really a competitor for gold."
"We're witnessing a paradigm shift. After four years of political purgatory, bitcoin and the entire digital asset ecosystem are on the brink of entering the financial mainstream," Mike Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Digital, told CNBC.
Bitcoin had been widely expected to reach the landmark $100,000 level since the U.S. presidential election. However, excited investors sent bitcoin closer to this mark much sooner than initially anticipated; it rose as high as $99,849.99 on Nov. 22.
There is much hope that Trump will deliver on several pro-crypto initiatives in the year ahead — including the establishment of a national strategic bitcoin reserve or stockpile, no taxes on crypto transactions and opening up the crypto public equity markets with more IPOs.
"Over the long term, I'm bullish," Novogratz added. "It won't be a straight line up, and investors should always consider taking gains off the table. But, with a pro-crypto administration about to take charge in the U.S., it'll be hard for the rest of the world not to take notice."
Google CEO fired back at Microsoft CEO's comments aimed at Google's footing in the AI arms race.
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai is challenging Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to an AI duel.
Well, sort of.
"I'd love to do a side-by-side comparison of Microsoft's own models and our models any day, any time," Pichai said, speaking at the The New York Times' Dealbook Summit on Wednesday with interviewer Andrew Ross Sorkin.
Pichai's comments came after Sorkin read aloud comments from an interview Nadella did earlier this year, in which the Microsoft CEO questioned Google's place in the AI arms race following the search giant's AI product mishaps earlier this year.
"Google should have been the default winner in the world of big tech's AI race," Nadella said in March on the Norges Bank Investment Management's podcast. "Google's a very competent company and obviously they have both the talent and the compute. They're the vertically integrated player in this. They have everything from data to silicon to models to products and distribution."
"You guys were the originals when it comes to AI," Sorkin told Pichai after reading Nadella's comments. He asked Pichai, "Where [do] you think you are in the journey relative to these other players?"
"They're using someone else's models," added Pichai after saying he'd love to do the side-by-side comparison.
"You're throwing down the gauntlet," Sorkin responded.
Laughing, Pichai shook his head adding, "I'm just — I have a lot of respect for them and the team."
Large Language Models are a type of artificial intelligence that can analyze and generate human language, trained by vasts amount of data. While Microsoft does have its own AI models, much of the advanced capabilities in its recent offerings are powered by OpenAI's LLMs.
The market for chatbots and related AI tools has exploded since OpenAI introduced ChatGPT in late 2022, giving consumers a new way to seek information online outside of traditional search. Shortly after, Microsoft it announced a partnership with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT into the Bing search engine.
Google has used its own LLMs for years to power its artificial intelligence and search products. Google latest LLMs is its Gemini series, which powers its conversational AI that competes with OpenAI's GPT models. The company announced more advanced Gemini products in May.
The latest comments come as tech companies spar amid the escalating AI arms race, particularly between Microsoft and Google.
In October, Microsoft took the unusual step of publicly accusing longtime rival Google of running "shadow campaigns" in Europe, claiming those efforts were designed to discredit the search giant with regulators.
"I think that it's the biggest upgrade in Xreal history and probably the biggest upgrade for the entire consumer AR glasses [sector]," Chi Xu, CEO of Xreal, told CNBC in an interview.
The X1 chip was in the works for three years, Xu said, adding that he sees it as a way to increase the capabilities of the glasses to differentiate from the competition.
"We have to step up to define a chip that is really defining some of the new features for these types of glasses," Xu said.
Xreal is one of the biggest players in the AR glasses space, but it is facing intense competition from the likes of Snap, which unveiled a new set of its Spectacles in September, as well as Facebook parent Meta's continued efforts with the Meta Ray-Ban product. Meanwhile, CNBC reported this year that Qualcomm is working on a set of glasses with Google and Samsung.
Xreal is among the companies that are betting on glasses — rather than large headsets like Apple's Vision Pro or the Meta Quest — to be the mass-market winners in AR.
"People have started to realize a headset doesn't make sense, we need to go to lighter form factors to the glasses category," Xu said. "But the challenge for glasses is can we push the limit to deliver a headset experience on a much smaller form factor?"
The Xreal One and Xreal One Pro start at $499 and $599 respectively.
AR, which refers to a technology that overlays digital content over the real world, has been hyped up over the last few years. However, the market had not exploded like many had predicted. Large headsets have proved too expensive or uncomfortable and firms including Xreal and Meta are focusing on how they can make the experience with glasses more compelling.
There is also still a lack of content and killer use cases for the product, an issue Xu said needs to change before the product category reaches a wider user base. The CEO added that this begins with good hardware.
"We need a platform, we need an ecosystem to improve the experience because we don't have any content yet. But in order to have the developers getting excited ... you need to have good hardware to begin with," Xu told CNBC.
Xu said the company is expecting to sell 500,000 units of its previous products in 2025, roughly doubling the figure of this year.
"The intention here is to increase customer loyalty and partner loyalty and, ultimately, win rates," Matt Yanchyshyn, AWS' vice president of marketplace and partner services, told CNBC in an interview.
For software companies, the only requirement is that they need to be selling their products through the AWS Marketplace. Amazon reduced fees to 3% or lower in some cases this year, after Microsoft and Google decreased their rates.
On the consumer side, Amazon has an estimated 180 million Prime subscribers in the U.S. The $139 annual subscription includes speedy shipping as well as two-hour grocery delivery and digital services like Prime Video and Amazon Music.
Retailers that want to take advantage of Prime's massive customer base can pay a fee to add Buy with Prime to their site, and utilize Amazon's fulfillment network when purchases are made using the button. Amazon said in September that Buy with Prime orders through merchants' sites are up more than 45% this year from a year earlier.
Buy with AWS has one key difference in that it's free for software companies to embed. Because the services are running on top of AWS, the purchases result in more revenue for Amazon.
"Buy with Prime is a separate initiative, but we're very close to that team and collaborate on technical implementation," Yanchyshyn said. He added that, while "we definitely sort of trade notes on success," Buy with AWS is "ultimately a very different use case."
Yanchyshyn said that Matt Garman, who was tapped to lead AWS earlier this year, is focused on making partners the center of the customer journey.
"It's not lip service. He means it," Yanchyshyn said.
Databricks has enjoyed a clean integration with Microsoft's cloud since Microsoft started selling a service called Azure Databricks in 2018. Setting up Databricks on AWS has been more complicated, said David Meyer, senior vice president of product management at the data analytics software startup.
Buy with AWS should lead to a higher share of revenue coming from Amazon deployments, he said.
"We should really see an acceleration of people that go and use it on AWS, because it's so easy," Meyer said. "I would say that this will give AWS the advantage over other clouds, because AWS will be simpler than the other ones, much like historically Azure was simpler for Databricks."
Workday plans to employ the button on its Adaptive Planning product, stemming from the $1.5 billion acquisition of Adaptive Insights in 2018. The company, which sells finance and human resources software, wants to see if procurement will be faster when buyers use the button and go through the AWS Marketplace.
"Can we get software in the hands of business users faster with this? That's the theory that were testing with this capability," said Matthew Brandt, Workday's senior vice president of global partners.
Brandt said that if the evaluation goes well, Workday could use the button for more products.
"We have buyers who are not as familiar with us who are very familiar with AWS," he said. "It validates Workday as a potential provider."
Anduril, co-founded by Palmer Luckey, did not answer a question about whether reducing the onus on human operators will translate to fewer humans in the loop on high-stakes warfare decisions. Luckey founded Oculus VR, which he sold to Facebook in 2014.
OpenAI said it was working with Anduril to help human operators make decisions "to protect U.S. military personnel on the ground from unmanned drone attacks." The company said it stands by the policy in its mission statement of prohibiting use of its AI systems to harm others.
The news comes after Microsoft-backed OpenAI in January quietly removed a ban on the military use of ChatGPT and its other AI tools, just as it had begun to work with the U.S. Department of Defense on AI tools, including open-source cybersecurity tools.
Until early January, OpenAI's policies page specified that the company did not allow the usage of its models for "activity that has high risk of physical harm" such as weapons development or military and warfare. In mid-January, OpenAI removed the specific reference to the military, although its policy still states that users should not "use our service to harm yourself or others," including to "develop or use weapons."
The news comes after years of controversy about tech companies developing technology for military use, highlighted by the public concerns of tech workers — especially those working on AI.
Employees at virtually every tech giant involved with military contracts have voiced concerns after thousands of Google employees protested Project Maven, a Pentagon project that would use Google AI to analyze drone surveillance footage.
Microsoft employees protested a $480 million army contract that would provide soldiers with augmented-reality headsets, and more than 1,500 Amazon and Google workers signed a letter protesting a joint $1.2 billion, multiyear contract with the Israeli government and military, under which the tech giants would provide cloud computing services, AI tools and data centers.
Nickel-hydrogen batteries operate like traditional batteries with stacked electrodes, but they are enclosed in a pressurized gas tank. The cathode uses nickel hydroxide, while the anode relies on hydrogen. Charging produces hydrogen gas, which is oxidized during discharge to create water.
Despite concerns about handling combustible hydrogen and pressurized tanks, the internal pressure is only 5 percent of that in hydrogen fuel cells. Additionally, any excess pressure causes hydrogen to recombine into water, ensuring safety.
Advanced storage solutions
NASA has used nickel-hydrogen batteries for systems such as the International Space Station (ISS) since the 1970s. Platinum catalysts, which were expensive, were used in the initial design. But in 2020, Yi Cui, a materials science professor at Stanford, created a less expensive substitute utilizing a nickel-molybdenum-cobalt alloy, opening up the technology for wider use.
Cui’s invention of an affordable nickel-molybdenum-cobalt alloy catalyst led to the founding of EnerVenue.
EnerVenue’s battery packs, called ESVs, feature six-foot-long, six-inch-wide tanks capable of storing 3 kWh of energy. Unlike lithium-ion batteries, ESVs operate across a wide temperature range (-40°F to 140°F) without requiring additional safety measures. However, nickel-hydrogen batteries are costlier to manufacture and have lower energy density, necessitating more units to match lithium-ion outputs.
Despite these limitations, nickel-hydrogen batteries excel in durability, with a lifespan of 30,000 charge cycles—equivalent to up to 30 years of use. EnerVenue estimates they retain 86 percent capacity even after extensive use. This makes them a promising alternative for long-term energy storage in a sustainable energy future.
Advancing sustainability
RWE’s pilot project at its US testing facility near Milwaukee will evaluate EnerVenue’s ESV batteries.
The project’s objectives are to evaluate overall efficiency, temperature resilience, duration, charge and discharge performance, and cycling adaptability. RWE will use the data from these experiments to improve the technology in preparation for possible future energy project integration.
“Energy Storage Vessels are built to meet the demands of even the most diverse and challenging clean energy applications, providing a reliable, long-lasting, and sustainable answer for large-scale renewable energy projects. Collaborating with a leader like RWE allows us to showcase the capabilities of our technology and demonstrate how it can drive the future of clean energy expansion and grid resilience,” said Majid Keshavarz, CTO of EnerVenue, in a statement.
RWE develops and operates battery storage systems across the U.S., Europe, and Australia, with a current capacity of 0.7 GW and 1.4 GW under construction. As part of its Growing Green strategy, the company aims to expand its capacity to 6 GW globally by 2030.
President-elect Donald Trump was early to warn about the national security dangers posed by TikTok during his first term in office, with rhetoric and policy discussions that framed the social media app within his aggressive anti-China stance. But during the 2024 campaign, Trump seemed to do an about-face.
In an interview on CNBC's "Squawk Box" last March, Trump said banning TikTok would make young people "go crazy" and would also benefit Meta Platforms' Facebook.
"There's a lot of good and there's a lot of bad with TikTok," Trump said. "But the thing I don't like is that without TikTok, you can make Facebook bigger, and I consider Facebook to be an enemy of the people, along with a lot of the media."
Trump's transition team hasn't commented on TikTok specifically, but has said the election results give the president a mandate to follow through on the promises he made on the campaign trail, and there are some big deadlines coming up related to TikTok's fate.
Starboard Value's Jeff Smith knows his firm sold its Nvidia stake way too soon, Tae Kim writes in "The Nvidia Way: Jensen Huang and the Making of a Tech Giant."
Early in 2013, Nvidia's shareholders were getting restless. The stock price had been roughly flat for four years, and the financial performance was mixed. In its latest quarter ending in January, sales were up 7 percent year-over-year, but earnings were down 2 percent.
Nvidia had a strong balance sheet of about $3 billion in net cash, which was a significant asset when the overall market value of the company was $8 billion total. However, its growth rate was only in the single digits, which resulted in a price-to-earnings (P/E) multiple of just 14 times earnings. After backing out Nvidia's cash on hand, Starboard believed that the company was severely undervalued, and its core assets had far more room to grow. The fund pounced: according to Securities and Exchange Commission 13F filings, the hedge fund accumulated a stake of 4.4 million shares in Nvidia, worth about $62 million, during the quarter ending in June of 2013.
Crypto-linked stocks jumped after bitcoin prices reached $100,000 for the first time ever.
MicroStrategy surged 6.1%, while Robinhood Markets and Coinbase Global climbed 4.3% and 3.5% each. Mara Holdings and Riot Platforms added around 6% and 4%, respectively.
MicroStrategy has become a proxy for bitcoin, as the software company has been buying the digital currency in recent years — driving the stock's value higher. The stock is up more than 2,700% since 2020, when the company first began buying bitcoin.
Year to date, MicroStrategy has soared 542.8% as of Wednesday's close. Robinhood has rallied more than 200%, while Coinbase has nearly doubled. Mara Holdings has lagged the group with a 10.5% gain.
Investors became bullish on bitcoin after President-elect Donald Trump won the Nov. 5 election on the expectations of a more relaxed regulatory environment.
Investors have also poured into leveraged MicroStrategy ETFs, according to a research note from JPMorgan on Wednesday. A leveraged exchange-traded fund can amplify the potential gains of an underlying index by holding debt; as a result, it is also viewed as a higher-risk investment fund.
British regulators said the tie-up can proceed if both companies sign "binding commitments to invest billions" to roll out a 5G network across the U.K.
Britain's competition regulator on Thursday approved the merger between telecommunication firms Vodafone and Three in the U.K., subject to certain conditions.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said the £15 billion ($19 billion) tie-up should be allowed to proceed if both companies sign "binding commitments to invest billions" to roll out a combined 5G network across the U.K.
The combined entity would also be required to cap certain mobile tariffs and "offer preset contractual terms" to so-called mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) — mobile operators that piggyback off of another company's network.
Vodafone and CK Hutchison, the owner of the Three U.K. network, announced the transaction last year. The deal, now approved, will merge the two brands' U.K. businesses, giving Vodafone a 51% controlling stake and leaving CK Hutchison with the minority interest.
Xreal is betting on glasses, rather than headsets like Apple's Vision Pro or the Meta Quest, to be the mass-market winners in augmented reality.
Xreal on Wednesday launched its latest generation of augmented reality (AR) glasses as it looks to fend off competition from the likes of Meta and Snap.
The company, which is backed by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, is hoping to capitalize on the growing interest in AR glasses.
The Xreal One Series features the X1 chip which is the company's first self-designed processor for its glasses and marks a big step for the product's capabilities.
Xreal talks up the ability for wearers of its glasses to be able to connect to devices such as a phone, laptop or games console, and see their content on a huge digital screen in front of them. The previous generation of Xreal's product required a companion device called the Beam for connections to a device, but the latest chip means that the Beam is not required.
Amazon Web Services expects that a streamlined process for third-party software sales will bring more revenue for the cloud leader.
In 2022, Amazon introduced the Buy with Prime button, allowing premium subscribers to make purchases using their Amazon account even when shopping on other websites.
Now the company is bringing a similar concept to its cloud-computing business.
At its Reinvent conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Amazon Web Services said a new Buy with AWS button will be available for cloud software partners to embed on their sites as a way for customers to pay.
AWS is the leading provider of cloud infrastructure, ahead of Microsoft and Google, reeling in over $100 billion in revenue in the past four quarters. Prominent cloud software vendors like Databricks, Wiz and Workday run their products on top of AWS, as well as other clouds, and will now be able to sell services directly to users with AWS accounts via the new button. The checkout option will allow buyers to take advantage of previously agreed-upon discounts.
Sam Altman says that AI technology will be able to mirror human capability sooner than most people realize, but that this would matter much less than many have predicted. He recently claimed that the company would be able to achieve artificial general intelligence in the next few years at a conference in New York City. He has downplayed the rising tensions between him and Elon Musk, especially concerning due to Musk's increasingly close relationship with President-elect Trump, saying that it would be profoundly un-American to use political power to hurt competitors and advantage Musk's own businesses.

OpenAI and Anduril on Wednesday announced a partnership allowing the defense tech company to deploy advanced artificial intelligence systems for "national security missions."
It's part of a broader, and controversial, trend of AI companies not only walking back bans on military use of their products, but also entering into partnerships with defense industry giants and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Last month, Anthropic, the Amazon-backed AI startup founded by ex-OpenAI research executives, and defense contractor Palantir announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services to "provide U.S. intelligence and defense agencies access to [Anthropic's] Claude 3 and 3.5 family of models on AWS." This fall, Palantir signed a new five-year, up to $100 million contract to expand U.S. military access to its Maven AI warfare program.
The OpenAI-Anduril partnership announced Wednesday will "focus on improving the nation's counter-unmanned aircraft systems (CUAS) and their ability to detect, assess and respond to potentially lethal aerial threats in real-time," according to a release, which added that "Anduril and OpenAI will explore how leading edge AI models can be leveraged to rapidly synthesize time-sensitive data, reduce the burden on human operators, and improve situational awareness."
Donald Trump has nominated crypto-friendly former SEC commissioner Paul Atkins to lead the SEC, noting Atkins' commitment to balanced regulations that foster innovation and digital assets. Atkins' appointment, pending Senate confirmation, has been welcomed by lawmakers and crypto executives as a step toward regulatory clarity and support for the digital asset ecosystem.
Nickel-hydrogen batteries last 30,000 cycles (up to 30 years), retaining 86 percent capacity after extensive use.
RWE, a German energy company, is testing advanced battery technology originally developed by NASA for the International Space Station.
The innovative energy storage solution is being integrated into the company’s wind and solar projects.
RWE plans to test nickel-hydrogen batteries in a renewable energy pilot project at its Milwaukee, Wisconsin, testing facility in the US.
The batteries, named Energy Storage Vessels (ESVs), capable of over 30,000 cycles, are supplied by EnerVenue, a company leading the commercial use of high-efficiency metal-hydrogen technology.
Nickel-hydrogen innovation
Energy storage technologies are urgently needed as the globe undergoes a significant shift to renewable energy sources. Our greatest option to until has been lithium-ion batteries, but creating large-scale storage solutions is becoming more and more costly and time-consuming.
Li-ion batteries are vulnerable to thermal runaway, and in order to avoid a serious accident, big energy storage solutions require extra cooling, ventilation, and fire suppression facilities. Batteries built on nickel and hydrogen may be useful in this situation.
CENT's last price is $0.0017. If the intended goal of the deflationary mechanism is to reach $0.01, if my computation is accurate, that would mean CENT has to increase 488.23%.
I've been reading about the latest PwC survey, and it's amazing how investors are really pushing for AI adoption. From what I understand, about 73% of investors want companies to scale up their AI game. Two-thirds of them expect at least 5% boost in productivity within just a year.
The part about workforce impact was interesting too.
Investors aren't just thinking about tech, but also about upskilling people. I believe that's crucial for making AI work in the real world.
I wanted to but now the things I like are rarely there... I like magistv, doesn't have everything but it's a good overlap of all the streaming services
Happy holidays? Ensure your travel ads stay off the naughty list
It’s almost Christmas, and consumers may be feeling an odd desire to ditch the grey skies and Arctic climate of Blighty for a dose of winter sun. It’s therefore a prime opportunity for travel marketers to promote tantalizing seasonal offers and package deals, whether that’s to the beaches of the Med, or a seasonal visit to Lapland. But take note, Regulatory Santa (that is, the ASA) will be checking if your ads are naughty or nice, so please bear in mind the following advice to avoid a sack full of complaints.

Google’s DeepMind tackles weather forecasting, with great performance
Google DeepMind claims that its GenCast system outperforms traditional computing methods of weather forecasting out to at least a week and often beyond. GenCast merges some computational approaches used by atmospheric scientists with a diffusion model, resulting in a system that maintains high resolution while cutting the computational costs significantly. It has relatively low computational requirements, so individual academic research teams will likely be able to experiment with it.

When GPS Goes Dark: A New Way to Navigate
Advanced Navigation (Australia) and MBDA (Europe) are creating a GPS backup for planes, using a camera to "read" the ground like a fingerprint. This clever tech cross-checks terrain data with a database to pinpoint location—even if GPS is jammed. Unlike many modern systems, it skips AI entirely. A live test is set for later this year in Australia, with commercial use on the horizon.

#technology #nasa #us

A descoberta começou inusitadamente.
Bitcoin tops $100,000 as monster 2024 rally reaches new heights
Bitcoin had been widely expected to reach $100,000 since the U.S. presidential election but investors sent it to this mark much sooner than expected.
The flagship cryptocurrency was higher by more than 3% at $102,485.78 in early Thursday trading, according to Coin Metrics. Earlier, it rose as high as $103,844.05. Bitcoin is now up more than 140% in 2024 and 48% since the election.
#bitcoin #crypto #markets

!summarize
!summarize
!summarize
In January 2017, Starboard bought an 11 percent stake in Mellanox. It sent a letter criticizing Waldman and his team for their disappointing performance over the prior five years. Mellanox's share price had fallen even though the semiconductor industry index had risen in value by 470 percent. Its operating margins were half of the average of its peer companies. "Mellanox has been one of the worst performing semiconductor companies for an extended period of time," read Starboard's letter. "The time for fringe changes and marginal improvements has long passed."
!summarize
!summarize
In September 2018, Mellanox received a nonbinding purchase offer from an outside company at $102 per share—a premium of almost a third over its current stock price of $76.90. Mellanox was now fully in play. It solicited an investment bank to seek other bidders and eventually expanded its list of potential buyers to seven in total.
Jensen wasn't thinking about acquiring Mellanox when it became available, according to another Nvidia executive. But he quickly saw the strategic importance of the asset, decided Nvidia had to win the auction, and joined the hunt in October.
!summarize
Eventually, the list was narrowed down to three serious bidders: Nvidia, Intel, and Xilinx, which made chips primarily for industrial uses. The three potential buyers got into a multi-month bidding war, with Intel and Xilinx topping out around a bid of $122.50 a share. Nvidia went just a little bit higher, at $125 per share. It won the bidding war on March 7, 2019, for an all-cash offer of $6.9 billion.
Days later, Nvidia and Mellanox made the deal public and held a conference call with analysts and investors.
!summarize
!summarize #woman
!summarize #porn
!summarize #mlb #juansoto
"It's absolutely going to go down in history as one of the best acquisitions ever," Nvidia's head of global field operations, Jay Puri, said. "Jensen realized that data-center-scale computing requires really good high-performance networking, and Mellanox was the best in the world at that."
After seeing Nvidia achieve all that is has over the past decade, Jeff Smith of Starboard Value had one summarizing thought, too.
"We never should have exited the position."

"This mega-merger marks one of the most significant moments in the history of UK mobile, heralding the arrival of a new market leader with a combined 29 million customers," Kester Mann, director of consumer and connectivity at CCS Insight, said in a note on Thursday.

!summarize #nymets #mlb
"Today's decision creates a new force in the UK's telecoms market and unlocks the investment needed to build the network infrastructure the country deserves," Vodafone CEO Margherita Della Valle said in a press release.
CMA requires commitments
The legally binding commitments require Vodafone and Three to create their 5G network over the next eight years.
Vodafone has previously said the combined entity would invest £11 billion into U.K. telecommunications infrastructure.
!summarize #porn

Google CEO Sundar Pichai says he’d love to do side-by-side comparison with Microsoft’s AI models
#google #sundarpichai #ai #microsoft

!summarize #unitedstates #economy

!summarize #fire
Xreal is one of the biggest players in the AR glasses space, but it is facing intense competition from the likes of Snap, which unveiled a new set of its Spectacles in September, as well as Facebook parent Meta's continued efforts with the Meta Ray-Ban product. Meanwhile, CNBC reported this year that Qualcomm is working on a set of glasses with Google and Samsung.
Xreal is among the companies that are betting on glasses — rather than large headsets like Apple's Vision Pro or the Meta Quest — to be the mass-market winners in AR.
!summarize #sex #fantasy
!summarize #relationship

!summarize #goals #success

If President Trump reverses the TikTok ban passed by Congress and signed by Biden, he's siding with corporate influence and risking our national security.

Nvidia tangos with an activist hedge fund: An excerpt from Tae Kim's new book on the tech giant
#nivida #technology #jensenhuang #taekim

MicroStrategy leads crypto stocks higher after bitcoin tops $100,000 for the first time
Crypto-linked stocks jumped after bitcoin prices reached $100,000 for the first time ever.

British regulators approve $19 billion Vodafone-Three mobile merger

Gonna try find someone who can setup a threadcast for this show :)
So you have a place to get questions from the Inleo audience :)
@khaleelkazi do you guys have a account which can be used?
It's always fun to check which coins have increased the most on Hive-engine each day... Of course, most of these increases are products of an extremely low volume/dead tokens. !LOLZ #cent #crypto #hiveengine

1/🧵 Does art need to have a meaning behind it? must there always be a hidden message? do you think that the word will be fun without art? do you think that art is life?
#outreach #threadstorm
2/🧵 Art is one of the things that makes the world a better place.Art is a way humans express their feelings and emotions. There is no art that doesn’t have a meaning to it. Before an artist will come up with and create work, there must be a meaning to it.Art is one of the things that will allow us to connect with our inner selves.
3/🧵 do you think that every art work should have a meaning? i will be so delighted to read your thought on this post below is link to my post.

French bonds now seem riskier than Greek ones.
Their yields are higher, and the government’s falling apart over spending issues.
How did France end up in this spot?
Saw this online, does it explain the story
To have big gains you need to be different than the majority 🚀
Thats so true
BOm dia galera! Vamos com mais um #threadcast
Bom dia meu povo! Amanhã é sexta! 🙌🏼
Quero ficar 100% logo pra poder voltar a rotina normal!

14 years ago one guy paid 10,000 BTC for two Papa John's pizzas.
Fast forward today, you can now buy 10,000 pizza's of 10$ each for just one bitcoin.
How far, bitcoin has come..
I learned about these incredible ray spiders that "slingshot" their webs to catch mosquitoes.
They sense wing vibrations with hairs on their legs and launch their web at insane speeds, up to 1 m/s in just 38 milliseconds.
$XRP’s ride continues down 13% today after hitting a multi-year high!
Meanwhile, Bitcoin goes pass $100K. Looks like a reset moment for altseason, but XRP's bull flag hints it might not be game over yet.
Volatility is the name of the game in this industry.
Think alt season have not even started yet. It will be a fun couple of months.
Really?
Then I gotta get ready for some action
Usually is that $BTC starts the rally and then people sell to invest in alts.
Is that why Hive and Leo seems to be picking up?
Might be. I'm no expert. Think $LEO mainly comes from excitement of Dash integration :)
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the advice.
True. Waiting for the second leg which will be massive. Perhaps in January
I hate these colorful YouTube thumbnails and those clickbait titles but that being said, there's is pretty decent analysis underneath.

Circle, the company behind USDC (the second-biggest stablecoin after Tether), just laid off about 6% of its staff, roughly 50 people. They’re calling it a routine review to balance investments and costs.
Mt.Gox just moved nearly $2.9B in BTC after it hit $100K. I’m curious if this impacts prices. With payouts delayed to 2025, it feels like creditors still have a long wait ahead.
I dont't expect big impact
I've been getting this on literally any reply I open and sometimes main threads #feedback Go Team Leo 💪 you can fix em

Many of the goes away if you just try to reload.
Happens to me a lot as well.
I hope the fix it because I had to open another frontend to reply to this. But Inleo is my fav❣️
Clicking on the "reply button will show a preview of the comment though. That's the way I get around it.
I may be new but after doing my study, I'd rather bet on Leo that BTC simply because at the end of the day, those investing for it to rise need to dump to profit but with the infrastructure system of Leo it's not necessary for that
So this meme finally becomes a reality after all this while. Well what's next for BTC? Whoever invested has seen profits, when will correction happen?
Mark Rober is launching a satellite with Google and T-Mobile. It can take your selfie with Earth! Codes start at spaceselfie.com on December 3.

Both Jerome Powell and Vladimir Putin spoke positively about Bitcoin, comparing it to gold and emphasizing its resilience. Powell sees it as a digital gold rival, not a currency, while Putin called it unstoppable tech that challenges the dollar's dominance.
Bitcoin is hitting a new level of legitimacy.
Bitcoin can break through the barrier of at least 250,000 at the rate it is increasing and that is a really nice thing for the future in $LEO.
What do you say? #leotoken #hiveblockchain
Good morning everyone at LeoThreads/InLeo how are you all?
I'm about to have coffee! ☕
Good morning
Good morning! Just had my coffee and now getting ready to work! Have a great day
Thanks you friend
this is crazy $Btc crossing the 100k benchmark....does anyone know if 2025 will be a crazy promising year for #crypto, or maybe i should begin accumulating $hive and $Leo before the price pump up, like $btc few years ago....
Binance is merging CeFi and DeFi with its new Babylon BTC Staking program, launching December 9. By simplifying complex DeFi tools, they’re opening up $140 billion in potential. I love seeing crypto made more accessible for everyone!
Binance investments are really beautiful!
I like to investing here
Good update
Thank you

I’ve been diving into some crypto updates, and Pepeto caught my attention. They’ve raised over $1M and are launching PepetoSwap, a zero-fee exchange and cross-chain bridge. It’s cool to see utility-focused projects reshaping memecoins for real use.
Still I'm not jumping into meme just yet.
Just learning about it.
I think one emoji takes space for more than one character in a limited characters thread/post. I'm not sure if that's true, or how it works. Maybe someone knowledgable 📚 can set me straight! #askleo #cent #bbh
