As the preacher collides with Viola, Todd learns to harness his noise to defend and empower, pushing against the patriarchal structures that have oppressed both him and Viola. In their confrontation with Prentiss, Todd ultimately finds strength in vulnerability, overcoming his adversary not through brute force but by summoning the memory and legacy of the women he has lost, including his own mother.
