The first wave of Arctic air is forecasted to plunge southward, impacting regions to the north of the frontal boundary. Residents in this vicinity can expect a mix of snow and even ice with the initial winter storm. Following this initial cold front, a second surge of Arctic air is anticipated to invade in mid-January, coinciding with a more active southern branch of the jet stream. As a result, winter weather risks will extend further south, reaching areas in the deep South and Southeast.
