Thwaites and Pine Island glaciers are infamous not only for their stunning ice formations but also for their alarming rates of ice loss. Together, they are responsible for a considerable fraction of the sea level rise, prompting ongoing research into their behavior. While most discussions focus on the ice these glaciers lose, it's equally important to consider how much ice they gain. The only way glaciers can expand is through precipitation – and Antarctica receives a significant amount of this, mainly as snow, which is essential for offsetting the ice losses from melting.
