I think the Pope would be more compelling if he were addressing a haphazard policy decision. However, primacy of conscience also plays into such things. While immigrants have a legitimate need, it comes at the price of crime and death. Some compassion and justice is due to victims of uncontrolled borders and immigration as well. Deportation, while a strike to dignity, is less harmful. We can sympathize with immigrants. But at the same time their position is by choice, whereas victimhood is imposed. Furthermore, immigrants can, at any time, choose to self-deport to avoid the indignity of being captured and processed for deportation. The Catechism has many instances addressing the interplay between Authority, morality, and conscience.
The Pope isn't the savior of Catholics. He's just the head of the Church. Christ is the savior.
I'm not saying the Pope is wrong. I just think he gives too much emphasis to the dignity of immigrants and less compassion to the people harmed by trafficking, which also includes the immigrants.
While we have an obligation to provide succor to those in need, it's a bit of a stretch that people only suddenly had a need after traversing several countries and crossing one particular border. They pay thousands of dollars to be smuggled across that one border. How is this poverty? When I think of poverty, it's a person without two pennies to rub together.
I think some responsibility for the indignity of deportation ought to be placed on the deported as well.
It seems that with all the Christian denominations who all think they have the right interpretation and authority nobody is really in charge. I don't imagine Jesus would be too impressed at how fractured His followers are over wildly different interpretations of His teachings.

To the Stoics, God as fate determines everything including setting the example for what is morally good. There is no separation between the divine and practical world. Both are operated by the same principles. Man can develop an understanding of God and the cosmos through divination – the subtle communication of God to man, but divination results from contemplation.
God operates through man via the Pneuma or divine essence. For an inanimate object, Pneuma is its physical properties, but in man Pneuma is the essence of reason which allows him to operate autonomously and interact with his environment. So the Stoics attempt a balance between the predetermined world created by God and the flexibility man can create through his individual personality.
Now that we have looked at some basic theology, how do we view Stoicism at the time of Jesus?
The Romans have been criticized for adding nothing to Stoic philosophy and his criticism is largely valid. Even in the case of Ethics where they spent most of their energy, the Romans concentrated more on the interpretation of Zeno and Chrysippus than they did on any new ideas.
Stoicism in the first century A.D. was not a refined or reinterpreted version of the original, but a continuation of its founder’s ideals. The impact on Christianity, then, was mainly due to its penetration of Hellenistic culture over three centuries prior to its time. For those who embraced Stoicism at the time of Jesus, Christian philosophy appeared as a kindred belief system once it had gained the form of dogma.
