This decline in marriages stands in stark contrast to the expectation that men would compete fiercely for a limited number of women in a demographic landscape skewed by the one-child policy. With approximately 35 million more men than women in the marriage market, one might assume that these women would be in high demand. Yet, the numbers indicate otherwise.
