Part 7/9:
The Search for Life: Proxima b's Potential
Proxima b orbits within the habitable zone of its host star and is a prime candidate for the search for extraterrestrial life. A recent study has shown that the ELT could determine the presence of life on Proxima b within just 10 hours of observation. This remarkable efficiency stems from advanced adaptive optics and enhanced light-gathering abilities, which eliminate much of the atmospheric interference encountered by previous telescopes.
Moreover, the ELT’s location offers excellent observational conditions, characterized by low humidity and minimal atmospheric turbulence. Such optimal conditions will allow the telescope to monitor atmospheric changes over time, providing a clearer picture of habitability.
