With the essence of Bonnie Miller resting on its script, Danny's personal health crisis compounded the show’s challenges. After suffering a heart attack, Danny found it increasingly difficult to oversee every detail of the writing as he had in the show's early days. His rigorous attention to detail was crucial in shaping the show's tone and humor.
Towards the end of the show’s run, in an attempt to save it, he decided to open the gates for submissions. This decision was a last-ditch effort to revive the series: he would entertain scripts from anyone—students, amateurs, or seasoned pros—in the hope of discovering fresh talent to reinvigorate the show’s narrative.
