The story escalates with Harris fleeing prison in 1985 after a failed attempt to clear his name. His escape included a harrowing four-hour chase through the woods, violent confrontations with police, and a frantic attempt to escape across the country. He fled to Florida, attempting to evade a system that he believed was fixed against him, even contemplating ending his life to escape the suffering.
Despite the despair, Harris’s resilience shone through. He turned himself back in, choosing to face the justice system rather than continue running. His time on death row was marked by unimaginable cruelty, including torture, solitary confinement, and the psychological abuse of a broken system.
