Lovato’s upbringing was steeped in martial arts philosophy, especially through his father's influence. His father, after discovering BJJ in California, fell in love with the art and introduced Lovato to its principles. This early exposure led Lovato to train tirelessly, often travelling to Brazil—starting at age 16—to learn and compete in the World Championships. His dedication made him one of the first American father-and-son black belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a testament to his family's commitment to martial arts.
