The Environmental and Structural Decay
California’s physical infrastructure reflects its cultural decline. Roads are poorly maintained, numerous neighborhoods are deserted or boarded up, and wealth contrasts sharply with pervasive poverty. The state’s policies—like prohibitive housing laws—have driven up costs, destroying the possibility of European-style walkable towns and vibrant communities.
