Surprisingly, many in my audience were unfamiliar with the idea of mate suppression, which alarmed me. I had assumed that this concept was widely understood, given its relevance, but my brief poll confirmed that most people remained unaware. Now, after a year of contemplation, I see how deeply entrenched and expansive this phenomenon truly is.

From religious doctrines to cultural norms, the entire fabric of modern civilization appears designed to discourage and inhibit fundamental human drives. Institutions that once served to uplift and support human flourishing—religion, morality, social bonds—are now often turned into mechanisms of control and suppression.
