A recurring theme is the spiritual and moral crisis gripping Western civilization. The author argues that our society has surrendered its core principles—religion, hierarchy, heroism, struggle—and adopted a culture of mediocrity, conformity, and weakness, what Nietzsche termed the "age of the last men." This era is characterized by decadence, inability to defend the society, and a superficial understanding of human nature. Nietzsche predicted that such a society would eventually be overturned by a revival of traditional values—those of struggle, strength, and heroism—what he called the "creators."
