Court documents suggest that James’s injury status may have been exploited in a betting scheme, with Jones, a former Lakers assistant and close friend of James, allegedly advising a betting ring to place large wagers based on insider information.
Specifically, Jones reportedly advised another bettor on February 9, 2023, to place a significant bet against the Lakers’ upcoming opponent, the Milwaukee Bucks, predicting that James would be out due to injury. The court documents allege that James did, in fact, miss the game due to injury, raising suspicions of insider trading within the sports betting community.
