Historically, Tesla has offered a Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive with a limited range of approximately 150 kilometers (around 100 miles), primarily to keep the vehicle price low enough to qualify for government rebates. Such a version could be obtained through a simple software toggle or feature-locking mechanism—limiting range, disabling autopilot, or removing navigation—without hardware changes. These measures, if implemented, would allow Tesla to steer customers toward higher trims with better features and higher profit margins, while still capitalizing on rebates designed for lower MSRP vehicles.
