Part 9/11:
Turning to domestic issues, a new report by Axios reveals that the U.S. immigration system is under increasing strain. Internal government projections estimate that by September, over 8 million migrants—including asylum seekers—will be in the country in "legal limbo." This marks a staggering 167% increase from 2019, placing immense pressure on federal agencies, with only around 40,000 detention beds available to manage the surge.
Among these migrants, approximately 2 million are classified as high-priority cases—those with deportation orders, criminal records, or pending charges. Yet, the lack of capacity and clear timelines for their removal creates a chaotic backlog, risking a humanitarian and security crisis.
