Turner's conservation efforts extend beyond habitat restoration to the rescue of critically endangered animals. One prime example is the Mexican gray wolf, once numbering fewer than 50 in the wild. Starting in 1997, Turner’s Ladder Ranch became a sanctuary for these wolves, hosting a state-of-the-art management facility that prepares captive wolves for eventual reintroduction into the wild.
In 2021, Turner made history by hosting the first private translocation of Mexican gray wolves, giving the species renewed hope for survival. This initiative underscores the role of private lands in global conservation efforts and the importance of hands-on management for rare species.
