The Kauffman Foundation, for instance, established the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) in 2008, during the throes of the Great Recession, to foster an environment where entrepreneurship could thrive beyond borders. Their goal was to democratize access to entrepreneurial resources, challenge the notion that innovation was confined to Silicon Valley, and empower individuals worldwide to create impactful businesses.
