Part 8/11:
Despite this breakthrough, OpenAI’s future strategy appears to be two-pronged. While these open models offer immense freedom and control for many use cases, the upcoming GPT-5, expected in August 2025, will still feature multimodal capabilities—handling text, images, audio, and video—integrated seamlessly with advanced tools, all within a closed, API-based ecosystem.
OpenAI explicitly states that both models will coexist. The open-source GPT-OSS models serve as scalable, customizable "training wheels," enabling developers to experiment, fine-tune, and deploy AI locally. GPT-5, on the other hand, aims to push the boundaries with multimodal processing, seamless integration, and cutting-edge performance—ideal for enterprise-grade applications demanding robustness, safety, and simplicity.
