Similar models are gaining ground elsewhere. Olympia, Washington, and most recently Denver, Colorado, have adopted or expanded community-led programs that operate with minimal or no police presence. Denver’s pilot program, initiated in June 2020, runs alongside existing co-response teams and emphasizes providing the right care, in the right way, for people experiencing mental health challenges.
