One of Weinberg's most ambitious projects is Shimon, a robot designed not just to perform music but to understand and generate it independently. Unlike traditional robotic systems that follow predefined instructions, Shimon possesses a level of musical understanding. It has been trained on a dataset comprising around 40,000 jazz and progressive rock songs, enabling it to recognize musical patterns and genres. Additionally, Shimon is programmed with music theory and rule-based AI techniques, allowing it to improvise in real time—responding to human performers and adding its own inventive spin.
