Over twenty-five years, meticulous experiments have revealed locomotive patterns within the human spinal cord, similar to those seen in animals.
By activating these networks through electrical stimulation, researchers hope to trigger functional movement even in individuals with complete paralysis. The goal is now focused on re-engaging these intrinsic spinal circuits to produce independent stepping and motor control.
