The term deepfake blends "deep learning" with "fake," and refers to highly realistic manipulated videos generated through sophisticated algorithms. Essentially, deepfake technology acts as a hyper-advanced form of Photoshop, capable of altering videos with a level of detail that sometimes surpasses human perception. All it takes is enough footage of an individual—be it a celebrity or a public figure—for AI to learn their features, voice, and mannerisms. With this data, a manipulator can produce videos where someone appears to be saying or doing things they never actually did.
