The department has been actively seeking solutions for several years. Since 2019, the department has approached the borough council multiple times about the growing staffing shortages and the need to transition to a paid staffing model to ensure 24/7 coverage.
In 2022 and beyond, efforts intensified, including a town hall in May where community members expressed support for the idea of funding paid firefighters—even if that meant increased taxes. Despite initial community support, formal action from the borough council has stalled.
