The Conjuring 2 is one of those rare horror sequels that does not suck ass, after Annabelle turned out to be a disaster James Wan came back to show everyone how to actually do a scary movie right 👻 Ed and Lorraine Warren head to England for the Enfield case where the Hodgson family gets terrorized by some spirit that latches onto little Janet, similar concept as the first one but way more effective this time. The scares are not just cheap jump tactics, Wan shows the ghost face right in front giving it body and character from the start, this gives your brain a second to process what is happening before it hits you 😱 which feels way more organic, Madison Wolfe playing Janet carried so much weight and nailed it
The scares work because Wan understands timing and atmosphere better than most horror directors, he does not rely on loud noises and things jumping at the camera every five minutes, the buildup is where the real fear comes from. That scene where Janet is home sick and the tv keeps changing channels by itself feels heavy with rain outside and the house feeling empty 🌧️ you know something bad is about to happen but Wan takes his time letting the tension build. The climax gets a little too over the top with special effects turning into this big action scene, but overall this is a solid 8 out of 10, not quite as tight as the first Conjuring but way more character development and emotional connection 💯
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga still have incredible chemistry, you believe they are a couple who love each other and that scene where Ed plays guitar and sings an Elvis song for the Hodgson family is probably the most emotional moment in any of these movies 🎸 its such a small quiet moment but it shows who Ed really is as a person. Bill Wilkins himself is interesting because for most of the movie you think he is the main threat possessing Janet, but then you find out he is just a pawn being used by Valak to keep the Warrens away, the old man just wants to see his family but he is trapped and cant move on, when Janet speaks in that deep voice it sounds nothing like an eleven year old girl could produce
You can tell James Wan had way more money to work with on this sequel, the camera work is insane with all these long takes gliding through rooms building tension without cutting away every two seconds 🎥 The way he uses shadows and lighting to hide things in plain sight messes with your head, sometimes you swear you see something in the background but its just a shadow, other times its actually the demon. The opening Amityville sequence is intense as hell even though it has nothing to do with the main story, Lorraine gets pulled into a vision where she sees Valak the demon nun who threatens to kill Ed if they dont stop investigating cases 😨 finding out this was the vision that messed her up in the first movie was a nice touch
What makes this sequel work way better than most possession movies is the Hodgson family situation, you actually give a shit about these people because they are already struggling before the supernatural crap even starts. Peggy is a single mom who has not received child support in three months, barely holding things together with four kids 💔 Billy always asking for cookies but mom cant afford them and you can see how much that eats at her, this is not some perfect happy family getting torn apart by evil, these people got nowhere else to go when Bill Wilkins starts possessing Janet and throwing furniture around, the neighbors witness it, even the cops see paranormal activity which never happens in these movies
There are 8 exciting upcoming sci fi movies based on books coming out and honestly book adaptations can go either way, some turn out amazing like Dune and others completely miss the mark, sci fi is especially tricky because you need the budget to make the worlds feel real and believable, the list includes some heavy hitters from popular book series that have huge built in fanbases so the pressure is on to deliver, hopefully these adaptations respect the source material while also making changes that work better for movies, sci fi fans are super protective of their favorite books so any movie that strays too far is gonna get destroyed online, Read More in ➡️ #linkincomments

You can tell James Wan had way more money to work with on this sequel, the camera work is insane with all these long takes gliding through rooms building tension without cutting away every two seconds 🎥 The way he uses shadows and lighting to hide things in plain sight messes with your head, sometimes you swear you see something in the background but its just a shadow, other times its actually the demon. The opening Amityville sequence is intense as hell even though it has nothing to do with the main story, Lorraine gets pulled into a vision where she sees Valak the demon nun who threatens to kill Ed if they dont stop investigating cases 😨 finding out this was the vision that messed her up in the first movie was a nice touch

What makes this sequel work way better than most possession movies is the Hodgson family situation, you actually give a shit about these people because they are already struggling before the supernatural crap even starts. Peggy is a single mom who has not received child support in three months, barely holding things together with four kids 💔 Billy always asking for cookies but mom cant afford them and you can see how much that eats at her, this is not some perfect happy family getting torn apart by evil, these people got nowhere else to go when Bill Wilkins starts possessing Janet and throwing furniture around, the neighbors witness it, even the cops see paranormal activity which never happens in these movies
