Everything the narcissist perceives as a threat to their self-image is projected outward, making it seem as though the victim is at fault, or worse, the perpetrator of problematic behavior.
In this twisted worldview, concepts like friendship, love, or empathy are considered "fantasies"—illusions that the narcissist dismisses as false. They view any genuine connection as a threat to their control because these bonds challenge their superimposed reality. Thus, they aim to eradicate any perceived competition or challenge to their narrative.
