When a victim maintains meaningful relationships—whether with friends, family, or colleagues—these connections threaten the narcissist's constructed fantasy universe. The victim's friendship or love becomes an uncontested reality independent of the narcissist's distorted perspective.
To preserve their own version of reality, narcissists often proceed to eliminate or undermine these connections. Whether through manipulation, guilt-tripping, or outright ostracism, they seek to isolate the victim further, removing external validation and reinforcement of reality that contradicts their narrative.
