When examining such maternal behaviors, a key insight is that often, what begins as borderline personality traits may soften or mask as an individual ages. This transition can often reveal underlying co-morbid conditions—most notably narcissistic traits—which tend to intensify rather than diminish with age. While borderline traits may seem to soften or become less evident, narcissistic features frequently grow more conspicuous and destructive.
