Bipolar disorder involves cycling between distinct mood states, primarily mania and depression. These shifts tend to occur over longer periods, typically spanning weeks or even months. During a manic phase, the individual may display excessive energy, euphoria, and impulsivity, while depressive episodes bring feelings of deep sadness, fatigue, and hopelessness. The key point is predictability: once a bipolar individual enters a manic or depressive phase, the progression follows a relatively predictable pattern.
